My friend is into these super healthy fads. She believes we head "from the inside out." She's not against my medication by any means, but she thinks that nutrition plays a huge role on moods and such.

So she's made me these healthy shakes with avocado and almond milk and greek yoghurt, and I do feel more energized with them. She's into this potato starch thing where you drink some of it daily with warm water.

My diet goes up and down depending on if I'm depressed or not, just like my exercising.

Have you noticed how nutrition impacts your bp? I know I slept super well last night, the first time in a week, and it was the first time I drank the potato starch. I understand the other stuff, but I'm definitely not convinced about the potato starch (I think it's kind of faddish.)

I've been on an egg kick lately.

Easy to fix. Lots of vitamins and stuff.

Better than my other choices. Like pasta and butter. Crackers. Cookies.

I need to start putting veggies in my egg dishes. Like red bell pepper and onion.

I read something about rice water.

Not drinking 15-18 alcoholic beverages every night improved my mood stability and made me thinner and less depressed ...

drinking coffee wakes me up but also makes me feel jittery and anxious.

Eating salad and grilled chicken instead of cheeseburgers makes me feel like less of a bloated **** when I go to bed.

Never heard of the potato starch thing ... that's a new one.

I guess what I'm saying is that eating healthier makes you feel better physically and mentally

Loss of appetite during mania and depression definitely has a negative impact. Especially when manic, food only slows me down (like it would anyone).

But generally I try just to eat healthy. Nothing special, just varied.

You are what you eat
You eat junk, you feel like junk
You eat healthy, you feel healthy
I've felt a difference in the past, it's just maintaining it is sometimes my problem.

For me, I know more than a pot of coffee makes me super anxious and alcohol is no no for depression.

Food wise, I am finding that maintaining a decent blood sugar level is helpful for my mood. Not too high or too low. Too much sugar is the worst because of the crash. I feel best eating lean meat, fruits, veggies, lowfat dairy, and whole grains. Not my favorite foods in the world, but I do notice a difference. If only our bodies accepted pizza as being good for us!

I definitely think nutrition makes a difference in mental health. As for the potato starch, I can't say. I have never heard of that before.
I can go a week or two eating very well and my mood is good and then it all goes to hell and I eat a ton of sugary foods.

Exactly!! I was doing so good, but now...all I can say is I've been eating quite a bit of pizza lately.
Thanks for this!

I made homemade pizza crust for the first time about 2 weeks ago....and I think I have made it about 6-7 times since lol. So good. Which isn't a problem, the problem is I will eat the whole pizza on my own.

Pizza ain't evil, unless it's drowned in artificial flavourings and chemicals.

Real food is good. Try to avoid overly processed food (please don't give me argument "boiling is processing, so all food is "processed"). Eat food, not chemicals. I am not much into fad diets, most of them are just variation "don't eat lot of things, including normal foods". Low anything is likely not gonna be good for you. Just observe how foods make you feel and eat intuitevely. Prepare your own food.

I would make an exception for fortified food.

And the right fatty foods (those containing e.g. sunflower or canola oil) as opposed to the wrong fatty acids (unsaturated, high cholesterol, little vitamin E).

Genetic modification may be a problem, though. But I think it doesn't outweigh the benefits.

Especially those foods (also) rich in vitamin E can be good for us (those with psychotic disorders), because it protects the brain from too much excitation.

Mind body - mind body - mind body.
I try to eat healthy as much as possible and I always feel
much better in mind and body when I do.
I have fallen off the wagon at times and I always regret it.
I believe healthy eating is a must for everyone but IMHO
its even more important for those of us with mental illness.
The mind body connection cannot be denied.

The pizza the way I make it is pretty healthy (veggie pizza) but like I said
My problem is I overeat, I eat the whole thing myself.

I'm pretty sure I eat the unhealthy pizza. I don't make it. It's either out of the freezer or a phone call away.

The longer days like these go on, the less I care about healthy or unhealthy. I also just had some m&ms and it's not even noon yet.
