I think I got about 2.5 hours of broken sleep even after taking Ambien. Wasn't in my own bed last night though. Hopefully tonight will be better.

Woke up way too early! Was having a wonderful dream with Tom Selleck from about 20 years ago coaching me for baseball ⚾️. I was in a camp from the 1960’s with huge wooden log green painted building and fields like they had back then but I was my age now and standing straight is problematic and he was teaching me to bump the ball for a walk. Then they agreed I could have a runner and picked a 12 yr old kid to run for me.

Ive not slept very well tonight. I feel so tired but when Im about to sleep my mind just goes into overdrive. So I tried some mindfulness and calmed down again, only for the same thing to happen.
Today is not going to be fun as I really need my sleep at the moment.

Meanwhile my dog is snoring away, paws twitching. He must be dreaming!

My sleep has been weird lately. Its been taking me longer to fall asleep. I used to fall asleep around 6:30-7. Now its more like 7:30-8. Then I've been waking up throughout the night. Like the other night I went to bed at 7 then I was up from 11 to 1 or so. Last night after struggling a bit to fall asleep I slept fairly well from 8 until about 4. But these last few days I've been up for a few hours during the middle of the night but then I get back to sleep but just until my normal 4-5:30 time.

Can I join the club?

If I don't take medicine, I sleep every 2 nights. I mean really. Absolutely no sleep one night, then a long deep sleep the next night, from which I wake up very refreshed. MAYBE that's all I need, but I don't trust it. And the day after the no-sleep night is very unpleasant, as in major unhappy mood.

I'm recently back on medicine, 25 mg lamotrigine (nowhere near the usual dose) and 15 mg of mirtazapine. I started back a week ago. So last night I got 4 hours. I wonder what tonight will be like. Life with bipolar is so darn interesting.

While I was taking the full dose of both of those, I would sleep 7 hours a night, all but maybe one night per week.

Sweet dreams tonight to all--at least 7 hours of them.

Thanks @tentoedsloth
I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight

When I’m not on meds, I struggle to fall asleep but I then struggle to wake up

However at the moment I have hypersomnia due to a depressive episode

I get overwhelmingly tired, sleep for 7 hours, wake up for a couple hours then return to sleep for another 7 hours or so.
It’s frustrating because I feel so tired most of the time!

Pinny I so understand. At night I can't fall asleep because I'm anxious but once I do sleep I sleep for many hours, into the afternoon. My pdoc just added more sedation trying to get me to sleep sooner so I may be sleeping even more for a while.

I'm hoping to normalize my sleep after my surgery on the 2nd but it's hard to know. I just want to sleep normally. I'm embarrassed to sleep all day. I feel lazy and I know I'm not, that I'm just having an episode and life will resume. My mantra

I fell asleep around 7. I woke up. at 12 something but just really forced myself to go back to sleep. But then I was up a couple hours later and I've been up. I've been kind of hungry. Kind of nauseatd. And kind of anxious.

3 AM and I’m wide awake. Woke up to remembering my dreams too which is not cool. Went to bed barely able to stand which makes me further upset. If I’m going to be an insomniac let’s do this on both ends! Lol.

I guess maybe I was legit just hungry. I fixed a chicken mashed potato TV dinner at 3AM and then I got back to sleep almost right away after that and I slept until 5:50 and I felt fine when I woke up.

I have never in my life had hypersomia. I’m so jealous of those who do. Only twice in my life did I ever sleep a lot. Once when I was 14-15 I took afternoon naps and once when I was about 32 I had walking pneumonia. I couldn’t stay awake. My boss sent me to ER and they sent me home. I slept around the clock. Walking up only to take meds and fall back to sleep.

I'm just basically taking short naps at odd times, not planned, just dozing off & waking up. Never enough sleep, so always too tired to get much done.

When it's like that, sometimes just getting through the day amounts to getting a lot done.

Well, I got about 5 hours of sleep, so that's progress. 6 is the magic number for me, with which I feel like a fully functioning human being.

I almost signed onto this site when I was still awake 2 hours after going to bed, but instead I used a tactic that sometimes works for me on these slow-to-fall-asleep nights. I told myself, "Okay, if that's the way you want it... I'll give you one more chance to fall asleep and if you won't, you'll have to get out of this nice warm, soft bed and do things. I give you 10 minutes." And I snuggle down and really enjoy the warmth and the softness, and sometimes the next thing I know it's many hours later and I'm fairly well rested.

A couple of years ago I tried an online sleep thingy called ShutI, I think, and it helped a little but not enough. The best part of it was deliberately restricting sleeping hours severely for a short time, which helped for a little while. I'm going to keep looking. I already know about and extensively tried: keeping the bedroom cool and quiet and dark, not looking at lit-up screens for an hour before bedtime, getting lots of exercise, no caffeine after 3 pm.... they said that if you can't fall asleep soon you should get out of bed until you feel drowsy, but I hatehatehate that, and I never fell asleep afterwards. But apparently some people do.

I took my meds at 3:30. Including the Geodon. Then I went and got ice cream at 5. I fell asleep at 6:30 and I woke up at 8 something. I'm not sure why I woke up less then 2 hours after falling asleep. Its not like I slept that great the night before. So idk.

I’m so sorry @~Christina I hope you get some restful sleep

And same to you @tentoedsloth I hope some peaceful sleep finds you!

@Mountaindewed I hope you manage to get some more sleep than just a couple of hours!

I’m certainly wide awake at the moment, but I was having a lot of stressy dreams and woke myself up shouting (this is quite normal for me). I think it’s just my anxiety being so high.

I’m hoping I get another 4–5 hours but we’ll see when sleep finds me!

I finally got back to sleep at 2:30. So I was up from 8 something to 2:30. I tried a bunch of melatonin and my 20mil geodon. I know coffee does the opposite and makes me fall asleep but I thought I'd have to settle on Mountain Dew until I found a can of Nescafe mocha coffee. I chugged that then I fell almost instantly asleep until 7:10. I feel rested enough. I don't know what was up with those hours though. Sleeping from 6:30-8 something and then being up from 8 something to 2:30 is extreme for me.
