Hi there. There was some interest last week in talking about supplements that could help cope with anxiety. For this week's topic, the following article will serve as the basis for part of the chat hour happening this Friday at 8PM EST.
Quote:
Natural and Herbal Supplements for Common Mental Disorders By Jane Collingwood
Natural and Herbal Supplements for Common Mental Disorders | Psych Central

This can include a wide ranging discussion of alternative therapies and or treatments.

The rest of the time will be for people to share their experiences or challenge.

Please respect other opinions. What works for someone else may not be appropriate for us and vice versa.

Well there is not a lot of new information for people who have struggled with Anxiety for years, but this article reminds us of one of the essential ingredients to feeling better, getting in the flow.
Flow: An Antidote to Anxiety & The Secret to Happiness? | World of Psychology
This article will be a jumping off point for our Anxiety Support Chat this week.

If you have flow stories (see article for explanation) you want to share that might help others or just want to be with other people open to finding healing and relief, stop by the Anxiety Support Chat on Friday at 8PM EST.

All are invited no matter what your diagnosis is.

In Anxiety Support Chat, we have covered some topics the last couple weeks that stimulated a lot of discussion. If you missed out or want to continue the discussion here is your chance! Come attend Anxiety Support Chat on Friday night at 8PM EST. This covers the following articles

In this article, the essential ingredients to feeling better is called getting in the flow.
Flow: An Antidote to Anxiety & The Secret to Happiness? | World of Psychology

In this article it exlains how our anxiety is fearing things that may happen in the future
The Biggest Cause of Anxiety | Psych Central

There is also time for sharing what you are going through that is a challenge or what successes you have had.

All are welcome no matter what their diagnosis is.

Anxiety Support Chat is a place that everyone can feel comfortable and learn about themselves and news in relation to anxiety.

Friday night at 8PM EST, there will be a discussion of how we react to stress can lower or increase stress. The full article is here.
Reaction to Stress May Be More Important Than Frequency | Psych Central News

Quote:
How you react to stressful events is more important to your health than how frequently you encounter stress, according to new research.
Quote:
The researchers found that participants who reported a lot of stressful events in their lives were not necessarily those who had lower heart rate variability. Instead, it was those who perceived the events as more stressful or who experienced a greater spike in negative emotions that had lower heart rate variability — meaning these people may be at a higher risk for heart disease, according to the scientists.
So come on down to the chat. Unlike last week, there will be a specific topic that we will stick to for the first 45 minutes for the sake of the integrity of the chat. This will insure that everyone can benefit from the chat. As time allows at the end of chat, personal challenges will be able to be shared and discussed. Thank you all for participating in this interesting topic.

Last week we talked about how our reactions to stress can be the determining factor of how much we suffer.

So this week we will take a look at 20 tips to tame your stress and stop yourself before you set yourself into a pattern of self defeat. If you want to look at the article you will find it here.
20 Tips to Tame Your Stress | Psych Central

But we also may discover other methods to add to the list.

Hope to see you in anxiety support chat Friday at 8PM EST.

I am always interested to try new ideas when someone has a new technique for coping with anxiety. On Friday night we will focus on this one article that also has a book linked to it if you want to get the complete book. Here is one technique

Quote:
One method Berndt emphasizes is the 54321 technique, which was initially used for PTSD patients experiencing flashbacks. Berndt has refined the technique to manage anxiety and other strong feelings. I tried it and it works — and I even taught it to my family members.
Want to read more see here
Overcoming Anxiety: Self-Help Anxiety Relief | Psych Central

want to hear more and share, you may attend the Friday night Anxiety Support chat 8PM EDT (EST is Greenwich -5, EDT is Greenwich -4 until they adjust their time. If question, just google EDT time and compare to yours and you can add or subtract hours as needed) no matter what your diagnosis is.

Hope to see you there.

Well suggestions like EMDR lead one to new pathways as this one has from last week's chat.

Healing with EMDR is an article describing possible therapies for those considering or open to new therapies. If you have done EMDR please feel free to attend and share your experiences. To read more check out article
Using EMDR Therapy to Heal Your Past: Interview with Creator Francine Shapiro | Psych Central

So feel free to listen and or comment on EMDR at the Friday night Anxiety Support chat 8PM EDT so check your local time against EDT by googling EDT TIME and then compare to your current time.

Hope to see you there.

Last week people suggested how temperament affects happiness and how we are afraid to be happy as possible topics for the chat. I found these two articles that talk about happiness from a couple points of view.
Why Striving for Happiness Can Make You Unhappy | World of Psychology

Choosing Happiness in Our Lives Revisited | Psych Central

So let's talk about happiness for a change instead of anxiety! Let's see what is the key to happiness and what is a failing game.

Please feel free to join me for a chat in the Anxiety Support Chat, Friday at 8PM EST. Hope to see you there.

Someone asked about chronic pain and how it affects anxiety. This article is quite in depth so we will use it as a jumping off point to discuss how some suggested options might work for us and how pain affects our own state of depression.
Anxiety and Depression in a Psychiatrically Informed Pain Medicine Practice | Psych Central Professional

Hope you all can join us for Anxiety Chat on Friday at 8PM EDT. If not try Depression Chat Thursday at 9PM EDT. New members remember you need 5 posts or replies to other's posts to go into chat room so make those posts or replies now. Takes a couple hours for them to get approved.

Hope to see you in chat!

Reflecting on what I have been through that caused me to be so anxious, I found this article that helps me connect with some of the challenges I faced and what I had to do to move through and around them. It talks about Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN). Many people suffer from it unknowingly. It is something many parents feel so defensive about they would not want to discuss it.
Childhood Emotional Neglect: The Enemy of Assertiveness | Childhood Emotional Neglect

Whatever your diagnosis, if you feel you may have suffered from CEN then feel free to drop by for the Anxiety Support Chat on Friday 8PM EDT. Hope to see you there.

Someone was asking me how to be more flexible with anxiety since we can often get caught in knee-jerk responses. I found this article on how to stop overreacting and so we will use this article as a point of discussion. How to Stop Overreacting | World of Psychology

Quote:
When the emotional intensity and severity of your behavior doesn’t match the situation at hand, you are overreacting.
So no matter what your diagnosis may be, if you have ever over reacted in your life (who hasn't ?) free free to attend the Friday night Anxiety Support Chat Room 8PM EDT (new people you need 5 approved posts or replies to other's posts to enter chat room)

Hope to see you there!

Thanks seesaw. Glad you appreciated it. I am still open to ideas for future chats. I just have to find an article and a subject we can all talk about (like meds are something I don't know how to lead a chat on)
