Do the current insane temps count? It was 102f in the shade in my yard this afternoon.

Have a friend in Fl & where she was it was 110 & I bet 90% humidity. I don't do heat & humidity well.

The state road department came by early in the day to clean up the tree branch they cut up after one of our storms. Great guys. Used a back hoe & got a huge broken branch out of the tree & actually cleared some other brush I had thrown into the pile. I went out around noon to clear up the big pieces that were left so I could mow. I was out maybe 45 minutes. Couldn't see through the sweat on my glasses & cloths were totally drenched. Got it cleared to mow when it cooled down a little. My neighbors are a dairy & they carry "Haymakers punch" that doesn't taste that great but a small glass on ice really helps with dehydration & muscle cramping. It is all organic juices. I looked at what was in Gatorade & realized I didn't want to put that stuff in my body expecially when my body is really in need after working outside

*sigh* If I waited for it to "cool down a bit" I'd be doing everything after dark. The last few nights it's been in the low 90s at sunset.

Lol....yes, I have been known for mowing by my lawn tractors headlights after dark. I don't mow close to my woods after dark because have found some box turtles in the grass but the field area out from the woods is safe. Lol....I have looked across the road & the big time farmer (10,000+ acres) is usually working in their fields by huge farm equipment headlights. Guess I am in good company. He is a huge corn & soy producer & even in their AC equipment they work at night. It may not be much cooler or less humid at night but at least I don't get sun burned

I'm reluctant to work outside after dark. Even slathered in Swamp Gator or other bug juice the gnats drive me crazy and the mosquitoes are big enough to carry me away.

Oh, boy howdy, I lived in Chicago during that storm! If I remember correctly we got three feet of snow from that storm. My dad was in the hospital, mom was working and visiting him in the hospital. I was all of 12 years old and a mite of a thing. Our sidewalks did not get shoveled. One of the neighbors chewed me out because they weren't shoveled. I just stood there and let her rip me a new one. The me of today would probably suggest she get her fat *** out and clear the sidewalks or send her teenager boys over to do it.

MD, I can't remember what month the storm hit, but I don't think it was April. I remember months of snow after the big storm.

I've been in some interesting weather conditions, from 115°F temps to fast spawning tornados to "so cold a cup of coffee becomes frozen mist when you throw it."
The wildest one though would have to be the ice storm from my senior year of high school. Freezing rain deposited about 2 inches of ice on everything. Trees fell. Some fell on people's homes. Many, many power lines fell with quite s few transformers exploding. We had no power for nearly three weeks, subsisting with a rinky-dink generator that was always one forgotten light switch away from giving out itself. The memory that sticks out even today was the blackness when you were driving at night. Even at night, you still get property lights, light from people's homes and the faint glow of nearby towns to guide your way. Not that time. Just black as far as the eye could see! Disorienting as all get out, even knowing I was going the right way!

This won't count as weather, but one of my wildest experiences was a fire. The barn was burning, my dad came down from the back of the barn just saying ''water, water''.... i didn't realize what he was doing so I looked and I saw flames. Then I was so stubborn I stayed down where the horses were and one calf was in a pen. There was no way to get the calf out, I was just about in tears knowing how it was going to suffer. Dad was chasing some pigs out. At some point he left, breathless and burned on his back. I stayed there and kept looking for a way to get it out and I couldn't. When ashes and stuff were burning my shirt at the back I looked up and realized I should give up. I ran out and behind me the barn fell. Dad said he was praying for me to get out of the barn. I believe him and his prayer reached me. The horses were ok and the cows were too, I went with the firetruck to help get the cows home.
Otherwise, snow up to my waist is about the wildest weather and not being able to see anything in front while driving. A few twisters that tore up trees at the home, and lightening split a huge tree near our house back then. |

Thanks Eskie and Violetta, for your thanks for my contribution to this thread. Well, it was wild to ME.
![]() Now the Southwest is having something that has not happened in 84 years. We don't get tropical storms, mostly fires and heat. Some places are closed, National Guard is on standby, local officials are "ready" (sure they are), the Navy has moved their ships away from San Diego, weather alerts pop up my phone, TV, and radio, some grocery stores have bare shelves, events have been cancelled..... It's almost like 2020 in some ways, with the officials telling us to stay home and stay off the roads unless really necessary to be out. Year's worth of rain in just one day in some places. Well if that's not impressive or newsworthy, I don't know what is. ![]()

Hope everyone is safe through this very unusual storm. I chuckle a bit about the grocery store empty shelves. They do that in winter here in Ky when a snow storm is predicted. If qe are lucky it amounts to maybe 1/2 in. of snow but everyone has milk, bread & toilet paper & a thankful heart they didn't NEED what they stocked up on

My friends around San Diego were disappointed.....just got a very light rain. My friends in the Antelope Valley (LA County desert) had some pretty heavy rain & flooding. Saw photos of huge rock slides but not sure where they were. Flooding drained off by the next morning. Was wondering how others fared

Liz, Hilary was literally hit and miss, as some areas got devastated and others just got rain but no power outages or wind damage, nothing much at all. Deserts and mountains got the brunt as expected but some places that always got spared before got hammered: Downtown urban or metro areas, such as sports stadiums.

We had a big storm two days ago. Cars were upside down on the roads and a couple of people hydroplaned. Sadly it ended tragically.
For us a huge tree snapped and a large portion of it fell on ours and neighbor condo. It destroyed her fence but the largest impact was on our roof (we are two story partially attached townhomes) and gutters. Our roof is in an awful shape. We have scaffolding in the back now. Our neighbour thinks it was hit by lighting because of the way it snapped and the loud explosion like sound. My area didn’t flood but many areas flooded and no power. Awful Apparently there were several tornadoes (7?) in addition to the storm, I don’t think actual tornadoes reached us, it was a bit South from us 7 tornadoes confirmed as Michigan storms down trees and power lines; 5 people killed | AP News |
