I have been experiencing needles and pins feeling for about 4 days straight and at times it can be itchy. I get it in my hands, my face, my feet anywhere. I have PCOS and I'm within my weight class of normal 5'7 143 pounds however, I had a tendency to eat late and a lot and I'm worried my body has now finally started to lessen down on its metabolism. My fasting blood sugar when i got up in the morning and ran down to the pharmacy to test it have been 96 and 97. I went to the lab after not eating from 9 that night to 8 and the fasting glucose was 97. After eating i'm around 105 or 99 after one hr of eating ice cream i was at 91 but what got me worried was when i ate pizza and it was at 124 at an hour and sum minutes after eating and i ate pasta the next day and it was at 115 after an hour and a half around there. could i be getting diabetes or do i have it. PLEASE HELP! I think my body is taking longer to break down these foods. And it wasnt even a whole pizza

I would be worried if your blood sugar was 140 or so. You blood sugar is completely normal. Perhaps the symptom is anxiety.

i'm thinking that my fasting blood sugar is too close to the cut off point... I'm really depressed and now I hardly eat because I keep thinking that any wrong move and it'll throw me over to the pre-diabetic stage

Well, I don't mean to alarm you, but what you describe can be a symptom of various neurological problems. Who cares what everyone else says? You know something worrisome is going on, so go get it checked out for peace of mind if nothing else.

Anarki, cutting carbs and exercising is an excellent way to help yourself. I'm not a medical, professional, but when I was taught in diabetes classes, if you had no problem at all, you would never get as high as 124. But even if you may be pre-diabetic, the tingling and stuff probably isn't from that as one normally only gets those symptoms when not under tight control for a while and a diabetic.
If you are also unsure, go to doctor for an HbA1c. It will give you about a three month average of your blood sugar levels. It's never to late to have a good diet and exercise. Take care. |

Well, women with PCOS has a high tendency to have diabetes at some point in their life & they are advised to watch their cholesterol & sugar levels & also keep their weight in check. Surprisingly, PCOS mostly affect girls who have a family history of diabetes. You always carry the risk of insulin resistance as well with PCOS. Although your sugar levels are quite normal but you keep it in check if esp someone in your family has diabetes. But there are other symptoms of diabetes too & just having pins & needles alone doesn't mean that you've got diabetes. Other hallmark symptoms of diabetes also includes urinating a lot more than usual, drinking, binging as a result of low energy & lethargic feeling, dry skin & mouth, wounds not getting healed easily, etc. I also have been diagnosed with PCOS & last year my fasting blood sugar rose to 138 mg of dl which the doctor categorized in a diabetic stage & not even a prediabetic stage & later it was found out that it was due to insulin resistance & since then I've been hooked on biguanides to prevent the sugar levels from rising again although my gyne has now eliminated me from diabetes but also told me that I've insulin resistance & has a high risk of having diabetes so I've to keep taking it for the rest of my life but it also helps with PCOS too & doctor usually prescribes it to treat PCOS. Hope it helps.

I'm a little confused as I'm Type II diabetic and it is either the lack of your body making enough insulin or it insulin resistance. If you are insulin resistant, sounds like Type II to me.

I've started back my exercise but its like I'm afraid to eat and I'm counting everything carbs, proteins etc. I am normal weight I don't understand what I need to do to prevent diabetes. Also what do yall think about this.... well my boyfriend has been overweight for a long time.. he is supposed to be at 160-170 for his height but he is usually at 250-275 he is active playing football (soccer) in evenings for about 2 hours. He went to do a fasting test for his job but he drank some tea about 3-4 hours earlier with alot of condensed milk... they checked his sugar and found that it was high. Wasn't it supposed to go down by that time 3-4 hours?

If you really want to have an accurate diagnosis for diabetes. Go to the doctor and have them run an HbA1c after fasting. This is approximately a 3 month average of your blood sugar numbers. I haven't seen the OTC HbA1c in the state I'm in now, but they could be behind the counter at the pharmacy. I don't know their accuracy compared to a blood draw. But might give you a clue if you're that concerned. Take care, |

Yes, it is when your body isn't making enough insulin to digest the glucose in your blood stream so in return it raises the levels of blood sugar but if you're insulin resistance as in my case the insulin may be enough or some times more than enough like 30 units(normal range is 25 but some doctors prefer for 10) which is too high then it means that your insulin is not working properly or is malfunctioning so your body is trying to make more to assimilate the glucose lurking in your blood stream. So, insulin resistance is another cause of diabetes. Yes, Type II diabetes.

anarki20 - Did you know that stress will affect your sugar levels? For goodness sake just get yourself along to a doctor and get the tests done so you know for sure. Procrastination is not helping your cause. Stress can cause pins and needles because you are not breathing properly.
If diabetes is in the family you may or may not have it now, but you do need to take this seriously. See a doctor soon about your concern for diabetes. Do yourself a favour. ![]() |

If you are that paranoid even after visiting a doctor (is he an endocronologist or a OBGYN?) Then listening to starngers and the internet is not doing you any good. You can even make an appointment with a dietician/nutritionist, everybody has different needs, young/old, women/men, and they can personalize it for you

thanks yall for all of the replies.. I exercise regularly atleast 4 times a week for about 30min to an hour.. cardio...i've limited the carbs and sugar intake... sometimes I just feel to eat more though. I checked my sugar level after exercising and it was at 72.. normal ? i find it was too low... anyways my past 3 fasting test showed a 96-97 average... and I've lost weight I'm 5'7 at 140 pounds. just my pcos symptoms are acting up a little more now... acne.. with the most bothersome. I don't have frequent urination or thirst... I used to eat alot before my dawn of awareness and pretty late in the night I just hope I dont have to pay for my moments of ignorance. Lastly.. my dad has been recently diagnosed with diabetes and my grandmother from my mother side died from it... my mom doesn't have it however.. and I am the only one so far with pcos in my family. sigh.
