Since Monday when I had a stress reaction at work my legs are killing me. They are so tight. I know from as long as 30 years ago that I hold my legs locked when that fear thing happens. I remember driving for 4 hours like that to my friend's so she could help me relax. She's dead now. My legs are killing me. I had a massage today that helped for that time. I am stretching and trying to tell the muscles to relax. My body has taken over. The pain is a 6.

Like the others said, maybe the warm soak will help. Heat usually helps me. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{wisewoman}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Hi,

The warm soaks really help, but also get some menthol alcohol and massage it into your legs. A heating pad or an electric blanket wrapped around your legs also help. Last but not least, potassium helps if you aren't including enough in your diet.

If all else fails, call your Dr. and get a muscle relaxant to use for a little while. I hope you feel much better soon.

Jan

I get this stuff from my local chiropractor and gym that I go to. Its called Biofreeze.Its cold when it goes on then it warms up. Losens the muscles. I usually take a hot soak in the tub with my lavender and then put this on too . It really helps . I like hot water best cause I stay in the tub for awhile . Sometimes falling asleep. lol. Hope one if the above suggestions help you Wisewoman. Thinking of you . OHH yeah the potassium thing , bananas at least once a day.Very good for you. Take care hon.

while we're curing the world, there are these little patches that are fabulous! they are "salon pas"..at the hospital pharmacy, i pay about $1.40 for a box. you place them on the sore muscle area and they work like a charm. my neck has arthritis, from heaven camera, and those patches keep me from crying from the pain......pat

Looks like all the doctoring here has done the trick while I was out riding my horse & getting my own sore leg muscles for which I know the cause. I only would have given you the same suggestion to soak in a warm tub, use a heating pad & rub alcahol on your legs or have someone else rub it on while you try to relax the muscles. I get to the point some times where my legs feel like runing around the block & my body is crashing in bed....not quite the same as muscle cramps but anowing also.

The lack of potassium can also cause cramps..don't know the relation between stress & lowering potassium, but I have had way low potassium from dehydration & the use of albuterol for my breathing problems....never had it from stress & heaven knows the amount of stress I have been through When my potassium goes low, I end up sluring my words like if I was drunk..that is when I know I am in trouble.

Glad you are feeling better now..swimming should help alot too,

Debbie

I use a muscle relaxant generic name methocarbonal and have for 30 years. It is NOT and "everyday" med, and the docs dole out the scrip in small qualities, but that's ok bec. I use even less than I am allowed.

It is great when my back "goes out" and I am walking hunched over with a cane.

The downside is NO DRIVING. I thought I was unaffected by it, bec. I usually don't fall asleep. Then I was on a 12-hour with my back killing me, and I decided to pop one since they "didn't affect me" and whoo boy, it was coffee and rest stops the rest of the way. I wasn't sure I was going to make for about three hours, until it started to wear off.

It also is prescribed under the brand name Robaxin but I have found absolutely no difference betw. the name brand and the generic, which costs me about $7 for 30 pills. Very inexpensive and effective for muscle spasms.
