I wish I had a heavy bag to beat the crap out of, but I'm in an apartment so it isn't feasible.

I want to hear what you all do to relieve stress. Does stuff like drawing or listening to music actually release stress on a physiological level?

I've got so much in me and it is absolutely exhausting.

Hello Don't_Follow: I'm an older person... so I'm not into punching bags anymore. (Not that I ever was, really.) Mostly what I do is walk. I tried learning to draw a few years ago. I thought I might enjoy it. But it made me nervous. I enjoy listening to music. But I don't think it has any significant impact on my stress level (which is always considerable.) I'm also a home bread baker. And I suppose, as I think about it, baking bread is something of a stress reliever too... as long as it turns out well. If it doesn't... then that's another matter altogether!

I like soaking in a hot bath. Nothing melts the stress away quite like being surrounded by warm sudsy water. There are even scented bubble baths made to help relax you. Anything made with lavender is good.

Some people also drink tea that is specifically for calming and soothing, though I don't much care for the stuff. Chamomile is a good choice.

By yelling if there is someone to be angry at, or talking to myself out loud or crying or listening to music if I'm alone, doing something crazy like biking in a very steep slope in the summer at full speed. I used to work out, and I was putting a lot of stress energy there. But I don't there any more.

Taking deep breaths, thinking about positive things, taking life one day at a time, hitting a pillow, reading books I like, watching good TV shows, talking it out with someone

I focus on the various traits I admire (for example. patience), and I remind myself of why those traits are important. I then recognize that I will be in a better situation if I adopt those traits. Then, I try to apply those traits to the best of my ability. I go through that same process multiple times throughout the day, even when there is nothing else I am doing at the moment.

Very stoic! Another Marcus quote in the signature, very nice.

You know what, if it weren't 4:12 in the morning, and I had some bubble bath or bath bombs, I'd go and take a nice relaxing bath right now. Sounds absolutely heavenly. I already have scented candles I can use....

I colour and find it helpful - especially when I have calming music in the background. I've recently tried giving art a go but I will be honest and say it is stressing me out.

Walking has been helpful. Calling a friend often takes my mind off things. Completing a mood log works too.

When my anxiety and stress levels are at their highest, I lay on my bed, close my eyes and play soothing music, while focusing on my breathing. I love Native American flutes, rain, the beach and waterfalls. I find that very calming. Spending time with my man (He is incredibly funny) my furbabies. Stress balls, adult colouring books (Those don't calm me, they actually make it worse, but it does work for a lot of people) Music, a nice warm bubble bath with radox muscle soak and scented candles. I do find exercise is the best stress reliever for me, it REALLY helps me. Try a TV workout, Zumba is also great as it's high intensity and will melt that stress away and release those feel good endorphins. Good luck!

I like to take walks. Just doing something mental usually doesn't help me. I have to discharge the stress physically somehow. Just going for a half hour walk usually helps. I usually talk to myself as I'm walking -- I talk it through with myself, sometimes with anger or frustration. By the time I get home, I'm feeling somewhat better.

Then I like to read a book that is relevant. I've been through so much self-help, I've got books on just about everything, lol. Or maybe the book isn't relevant to what I'm going through at all, but it just makes me feel better.

Oh, and my dog. Hanging out with my dog always helps me feel better. God bless her.

Just an FYI on those hot baths...make sure to keep calm and relaxed. I don't know if it was the humidity in the bathroom, or the fact that I got so upset, but I got so caught up in my emotions that I began hyperventilating and needed my inhaler.

Extreme perfectionists don't benefit as much from trying to draw, write, play music or do activities that can potentially be judged. You can probably do the math there as to why. I'm a decent artist and I play piano but afterward I have to de-stress from doing it because I am so hard on myself. So my answer to you is, not for everyone!

I personally rock. As in back and forth! I was born with RMD, though. That's always the best de-stessor for me. I can listen to music and sit in a rocking chair for 8 hours straight and just want to do it more. When I can't do that, I just really watch my breathing and try not to move around too fast. To avoid anxiety. It gives me something to focus on and calms me down.

Every day is accumulated so much stress! On some days there are additional cases and it bring stress. I try to take breaks at work more often: Exercise, yoga (at least 2 minutes), Spending on nature, in a quiet location outside the city. And I draw a lot and sleep. And I am alive and happy.))
