Vonnegut's Welcome To The Monkey House is a good collection of short stories. With a title like that, how can you miss?!

I'm reading Brown Girl Dreaming. My focus is bad right now, though, and it's a memoir in verse, so it's a slow go.

Still trying to recover from The Tortilla Curtain, which I finished not long ago. And it took me forever to recap The Goldfinch to someone who'd given up on it. I was pleased, tho, that I remembered so much of it.
Thanks for this!

One of the most disappointing things about the first therapist I see is how little she reads and how even less she retains of the little she does read. I have no idea what the woman does with her brain. I should have put well-read on my checklist of necessary items after older female, detached, uncaring and will stay back.

Trigger warning (just in case)!

Honestly, couch people, what's the point of living if you're not good at anything? I'm stupid and I'm struggling to see the point in being alive at the moment. Sometimes I feel like I don't deserve to live (doesn't mean I want to die).

Is there nothing you enjoy? I am not certain it is required to be good at anything or not.
Plus good at is a relative concept.

I might have to find some Roald Dahl short stories. I did have one collection but it got lost in a move somewhere... His adult stuff is pretty twisted and I'm in the mood for twisted.

Oooooh, i looooooove him!!! The Man From The South was made into a twilight zone or one step beyond or something, with Steve McQueen i think. Best story ever!!! And i love the story about the fat family, and the germaphobe. Bwahahaha!!! And i never say bwahahaha!!

James McCain is also not bad. He wrote Mildred Pierce. These things really hold up over the years - there are some funny things "the only career she could think of was making pies" - but thats was makes them so precious!

You are one of the smartest people on here, and we are not a bunch of slouches. So dont expect us to forget that you come up with the highest scores on stuff. There are 3 reasons to live - roses, pineapples, and Capn Crunch cereal - they are all miracles.

I thought James and the Giant Peach was one of the funniest books I ever read as a child (except for the scary beginning- which sort of frightened me).I did not like the movie.

And cereal? Made of pencil shavings (Johnny Depp was my favorite willie wonka).

Thank you for trying to cheer me up but I'm being serious. Sometimes I really don't see the point in all of this and roses, pineapples and cereal are not good enough reasons to stay alive. I really don't mean to come across as rude or anything (I'm sorry if I do) but yeah, life's really tough. I'm not going to hurt myself but I seriously don't really know why I force myself out of bed in the mornings anymore.

Is "being good at something" the only reason to live?

WILD SPECULATION:
I wonder if at some level you (Stopdog) are painfully lonely. Being unique is not as much fun as it sounds.

It is like I am speaking Aramaic when I speak to the woman. She completely fails to understand what I say.

I think its good to be appreciated for who you are. Is this missing from neutrino's life? I was thinking about this re myself today. My family fails to see me as charming, then when other people acknowledge it, the family gets mad at me, and theyre like, why didnt you act like that around us? Well of course i always did, but they never appreciated it. I mean, i was over thirty before i found out i was smart or funny. Thats just tragic!!

Not that anyone asked, but it's occurred to me that if I had to nutshell it.... well, Stopdog, ironically, would be the cat of the group, and most of the rest of us slobs would be the dogs.

No offense to any.

I'd be a cat in a dog's body, but with aspirations of reincarnation as a pegasus with a super sparkly magical horn.

I am more of a cat person than a dog person. I like all cats but I only like my dogs. (I have nothing against anyone else's pet of choice, I just have no urge to pet or interact with any other dogs than my own).

And it was The Holy Grail - not Life of Brian.

Does anyone know how to delete songs permanently from my iPad? I don't even know who half these people are that my kids listen to and I have no idea how they ended up on my iPad.
Thanks for this!
