Hugs, atat.

Those nights can be awful. I hope ColorOutside's power walk helped the dreams don't stick through your day.

Had meeting with my son's teachers today. He's suspected to be on the autism spectrum and they said he is scapegoated by the other kids a lot. They are working on it. The teacher last year just let this dynamic develop and now these teachers are trying to undo the mindset that's developed amongst these kids that it's okay to blame him for everything and to laugh at him. I don't even know how possible it is to undo that collective mentality (kids are 7 and 8). I am seriously considering looking at the local private school. It's expensive but if his happiness is at stake I don't know what else to do.

Going to bed early sounds lovely.

I've been staying up reading until I almost literally cannot keep my eyes open, trying to avoid that half-sleep between being all the way awake and all the way asleep. That's been pretty bad lately. I feel pretty wretched and wrung out this morning.

I was hoping Color's power walk would've reached this far, but alas, no. Wouldn't that be cool, though? We could all take turns morning power walking once a week so that the rest of the couchies could sleep in and still feel refreshed and invigorated. Or at least functional.

Would they pay for special ed? I'm on the autism spectrum and was in one special ed school I liked.

I wondered about whether he would be better in a special ed school but he is really high functioning and was fine in his old school because the other kids accepted him. I don't want to make a decision like that and it be the wrong one if it makes him feel pigeonholed or something when he's older. I don't know what is for the best. I saw a really good school aimed at high functioning kids like him but it is over 2 hours away which just isn't possible.

Is home school a possibility? Just to build him up from whatever he experienced at school? Then enroll him in another school next year?
Thanks for this!

Yeah, it's tough. I'm high functioning too and there were some other special ed schools I didn't fit into either.

I had a similar thought.

I like working there because its a way to contribute and give back. I volunteer anywhere from 2 to 4 hours a week. I can't really come on another day because I volunteer my time for accounting, payroll, and general book-keeping and the checks have to get printed on Mondays. But there are three of us so if one of us isn't up to it, the other two step in and can handle it. Usually we all make it though but occasionally someone is out of town or has an appointment.

Neither me nor his Dad have the time or resources to do that really, and I suspect if he realised being at home was an option, it would be very difficult to ever reengage him with school. At the moment he is grudgingly accepting of school but if he knew about home schooling as a concept I doubt he would be. And as he gets older the idea of home schooling him becomes increasingly less feasible.

((Echos)) That's so hard. Kudos to his teachers for recognizing the dynamic and trying to undo it, and it's not fair to your son to be in that spot in the first place.

My daughter on the spectrum was targeted by only a couple kids in her class, and it shifted the whole social dynamic. She ended up being placed in a class without those kids the next year, which helped.

It's a tough spot to be in, trying to figure out what to do next, especially when the options are limited. I hope that what the teachers are working on now starts to turn things around and that you're able to find a long term solution that supports your son in being exactly perfectly who he is.

I’m glad his current teachers are taking action to help make the other students become more accepting. It seems like his teacher last year turned a blind eye. Not good.

I don't know why. I just feel like crap today. I don't feel like being at work, though I am. I just feel like being at home in bed, asleep.

I saw an awesome bumper sticker on my way in today.

Nice Hummer
(then in much smaller type)
...and sorry about your [word for male member that starts with p]

Pretty much how I feel when I see those civilian Hummer beasts.

Hummers - I have not seen or at least not noticed any for a couple of years. I had thought (hoped) they had gone out of business.
