Has anyone done any work with this?

I’ve been reading and utubing this and the psoas muscle. I’m looking for answers to some body sensations that have been happening.

The videos that I have watched about TRE are kind of triggering to me because of the vulnerability of the process.

I decided to try it on my own last night, by myself, and I did have a shaking response. It was intense though and kind of scary in the intensity of it.

I was just curious if anyone had any experience they wanted to post.

Was it helpful for you?

Did you feel vulnerable and able to work past it?

I have done such exercises but not with a therapist or because of therapy. I found it useful along the lines of qigong and meditation and guided imagery sorts of relaxation exercises.

I've learned Progressive Relaxation. I don't know if that's the same thing, or similar.

I had no knowledge of it until a bit ago either.

The demonstration link could be triggering for SA. It bothers me to watch it, with the thought of I was doing this with someone else there.

Here is a condensed explanation of TRE by David Berceli.

This link is a demonstration of it being experienced and explained.

It’s about 20 minutes long.

I've had therapist do something along this line with me. It was helpful at times. Wasn't something I did very frequently though. I was never a big fan of relaxation exercises/body work exercises of any kind. Generally found it all rather anxiety-making (kind of defeats the purpose. LOL).

funny story. my wife and I were in couples therapy because I was having problems with intimacy. the therapist suggested this and my wife and I could not stop laughing. heres why. the same exercises that this uses is the same ones you do for yoga and sports.... (sitting against a wall until your legs are tired., laynig down and breathing afterwards and doing what you learned in elementary school to "shake out the tired muscles)

my wife and I laughed because all this is causing yourself to make your muscles so tired and tight that they contract (spasm and shake) the same thing having sex and orgasms do.

when I wasnt laughing I was crying, screaming or dissociating because having my muscles so out of control spasming and contracting like a full body orgasm, reminded me of the abuse I went through and caused me to react with flashbacks and dissociating or in pain from tight muscles going through a full body contractions (spasms)

Now days if I did it again it probably would just remind me of giving birth to my children because of the muscle contractions.

needless to say my wife and I were asked never to come back because all we kept doing was dealing with my dissociation problems, flashbacks and physical pain or we were laughing about how what were were all doing was just having a group of people in the same room tightening their muscles and having orgasms. and if interested no we were not the only ones in the room that experienced the class this way. First night there at least 6 said ok lets have our O's .

no Im not trying to make fun of this but if you google how to have an O, yoga and sports exercises you will see that this is same old thing new name for a new generation.

if it works for you thats great

but if anyone as any dissociative disorders, history of sexual abuse of any kind or physical muscle movement problems please contact your treatment providers first, you may find it .............can........... in some cases make a person worse of do more harm to them.

I've done TRE a few times. It's interesting how your legs will start to move by themselves. But I don't know if it's helped me, aside from the novelty factor. I think it was kind of relaxing as well, but no more than certain types of yoga.

I also didn't do it with a therapist. Went to a few workshops/classes.

Thank you for your replies!

There has been much trauma and stress in my early and adult life. When I tried it on my own, the intensity of what I felt and experienced did scare me and it also made me very curious how to work with it to heal my nervous system.

Hypervigilance wears my system down and this may be an answer to the tension of that, if nothing else.

I’m not sure if it could also give me the shut off parts of my trauma fragments. It’s just a curious question.

Thank you!

I know someone with whom something completely unexpected happened as a results of TRE session. It's hard to understand what happened and the person was not able to describe it too well because it was confusing for her too.

Anyway, it seems that something got unexpectedly too activated and she ended up in a state where her body sort of did not want to live anymore. She described it as becoming totally fatigued being on the verge of losing her consciousness. The situation lasted for months and she had a very slow recovery over the months.

This was all very unexpected to her and her TRE therapist who had never seen anything like this before. Of course the therapist said that TRE cannot have such an effect but for some reason to her it had.
Thanks for this!
