perhaps just having the prescription there was enough to alleviate some of the anxiety because now you know you have it if you really need it – so you don't have to take it but you have it if you want to

My sister just texted and let me know that our mom has covid. it's crazy because she's gotten the boosters and has always been so ultra-careful. Dr put her on an antiviral so hopefully she'll start feeling better soon. She's almost 84 but she's pretty tough.

So sorry to hear that, Artie.

I hope she's able to recover without any lasting damage.

I hope your mom will be OK, Artie. The thing with the boosters is that they generally don't protect against actual infection itself for very long (I think the most recent one is supposed to be effect against getting infected maybe for a few months at best?) But they are supposed to be quite effective (for a long stretch of time) against cases becoming severe enough to lead to hospitalization (or worse). So hopefully, the booster will help protect your mom in that way, and the antiviral will also help.

In the beginning, the first couple doses *were* more protective against catching it. But then more contagious (but less dangerous) mutations, mainly omicron, developed.l

At least, that's how I understand it from assorted articles I've read. Note that it doesn't make the boosters useless. They just don't do what many think they do (and there's a really low percentage uptake on the most recent one and pretty low on last year's bivalent one, too, so less protection in the general public).
Thanks for this!

Oh, that's scary, Artie. DId you just recently learn about that? Hugs, if wanted. I can understand your concerns. It does sound like she's a fighter. Planning a trip sounds good and like something you can focus on.

Sorry to hear about your mother Art. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

I do hope you can visit her sooner than you might have planned.

Thanks LT and Lemon. Last night my sister said she had already started to feel better as soon as they gave her fluids. She gets dehydrated very easily and I'm sure that didn't help. The dr told her to make sure she drinks plenty of water especially while she's sick. I haven't heard anything yet this morning so I'm assuming no news is good news.

I had the weirdest dream in years this morning just before I woke up... I'd been in a prolonged dream drought and suddenly this past Friday night I started remembering dreams again every night. I need to go read through my dream journal before i start work to make sure I got everything. So bizarre. My dad was still alive in it, and other weird stuff.

I had a really weird, elaborate one last night, too! Maybe something in the air? Is there a full moon?

I am watching McHale's Navy on youtube. Terribly racist/sexist (and probably any other -ist out there) but I like Tim Conway and Ernest Borgnine.

Today I am making feta cheese. I am excited to see if it turns out. Also making some cranberry curd. I had a hard morning talking to an incredibly literal pollyanna person - it was exhausting and frustrating and so cooking is a fun thing. I try to avoid people like this as much as possible. My person's mother was such a person and every conversation with her was a nightmare. The first time I met her, in response to where did you grow up, I told her we moved around a lot when I was growing up and when she asked why and I said "witness protection program" - she gave a small gasp and I heard my person say "no - not really - she is kidding" - and our conversations went downhill from there. A couple of her siblings were like that as well - it was like the twilight zone when going to her family gatherings.

just logged off work... time to go crochet and watch tv to unwind a little then I'll most likely go to bed early; i didn't sleep much last night due to worrying about my mom, then when i finally got to sleep i had that weird dream. tomorrow's my friday, and i'm seeing L after work since our impromptu zoom session last week refused to cooperate. Then on the actual Friday i have nothing planned, but have my mammo on saturday. yee ha and all that nonsense.
