Have any of you here tried patches, gum, hypnosis or medication? Did it work?

have to be careful with the patch, if you have any heart problems it could trigger heart attack, am trying hypnosis myself at this time

So yesterday my best friend called and asked if I bought cigarettes yet. I had like 5 in my pack so I hadn't gotten any yet. She told me they went up a $1 per pack and that she was quitting. $1 per pack! They're up to like $6 here now. So all this time I've wanted to quit because I was sick of smoking and worried about my health and wanting to save money, I couldn't do it until they increased the price by a dollar. I quit. I smoked what I had yesterday and had the last one at 2pm. I smoked the last one fast, it was gross. I went and got the lozenge, it's gross....but it gives me some nicotine when I'm going crazy. I feel like I finally kicked it guys. No more of this trying to control smoke....I just put em down. At least for today. I gotta look at it just the same as how I don't drink. Wish me luck!

Hey!
I haven't been here in awhile. Lots has happened. I came down with this nasty sinus infection from the detergents I work with at my job and my smoking didn't help any. Whenever I would smoke my sinuses and throat would hurt so I stopped. Hmmm, it's been 2 weeks and I still haven't picked up a cigarette nor have I brought any. I haven't had a cigarette in my house for 2 weeks now. I haven't even had a puff of one.
Yea!
I am gaining weight but I started exercising again and I'm not smoking again even if I gain 100 pounds.
It sinks in when you get sick how not worth it cigarette smoking is when you're wondering "Oh, so did I go and give myself throat cancer? It's not like I didn't know smoking wasn't good for me..."
I'm hoping it's not too late and I'll never ever have to realistically face something like that from smoking. I probably will eventually but I feel so much better not smoking. It's soooo nice to BREATHE in deeply and laugh without coughing.
I hope everyone else here finds some inspiration to help you stop for good.

Don't usually post on this forum, but as an on again off again smoker I'm going crazy today. I was down to just one a day and then quit for a few days because we were going to be having house guests and I didn't want to have to sneak around. Well, I'm dying for a smoke right this minute and I have exactly zero cigarettes in the house. I can't go get any because the guest room is right next to the garage and raising the garage door will wake them up. I'm too far in the sticks to walk anywhere that's open. I even thought of knockin on some of my neighbors doors who I know are secret smokers, but it's 1:30 in the morning here and I don't want to be "that crazy neighbor." I need a cigarette so bad my head is going to explode. What the hell was I thinking when I said I wouldn't buy another pack because I was quitting. What kind of fool quits smoking right before their inlaws show up. Idiot Idiot Idiot. I have got to think of a legitimate excuse for leaving the house. A sudden need for aspirin, diapers, toilet paper, anything I can use when they wake up and ask where I'm going.....I'm going to go crazy...that's where I'm going. Sorry to whine...Good luck to all who are succeeding.

sorry, but lol. well just think of it this way, if you can make it through their stay with out a smoke, huge victory for you. right? Trying to quit smoking....

i havent had a smoke in a few weeks, i still feel like crap, but i was hoping that by the time i get back to school in january that i'd be good. my main trouble is just being around other people that smoke. cause its always so easy to bum one.

best of luck!!

Ok, so I had quit back when I posted this, but for 24 hours and then I went nuts and picked up smoking again. I never posted it here, don't know why.

Anyway, today is a new attempt. All my friends are quitting, using the patch. So I got the patch yesterday, finished all my cigarettes last night, and put one on this morning. I think about smoking, but it's not the crazy I'm gonna scratch my skin off feeling as before, now that I have this patch on.

Sooooo, it's Day 1 of attempt 5. February first. Good smobriety date. I want this sooo bad, so freed from the bondage of nicotine. My mom died from lung cancer in 99. I'm looking at quitting as a way of making amends to her.

Well, I have to change my quit date. I smoked yesterday. I went to a pool hall for Pool School, and no one there knew I was trying to quit. I was going nuts and chose to give up. Soooo......I'll try again starting Tuesday. That'll give me 5 days without being in a pool hall, which is definetly my weakness. Then when I do go, my friends who don't smoke will be there. Not beating myself up this time. I'm just making sure I remember my mistakes. The number two mistakes being don't go to a pool hall hungry without another non-smoking buddy. =) Thanks for all the messages full of support. Least now I'd know what it would feel like if I ever drank. Ugh.

Hey everyone,
I still haven't smoked. It's been about 3 months now.
I get the cravings every once in awhile but I've learned to ignore them and focus on whatever I can that's in front of me that I can physically touch-I destract myself.
It's a lot easier to quit when you're sick. It turns out I don't have throat cancer as I feared-it was just my sinuses acting up really bad because of the pipeline/street construction.
If you can't fully quit then try to smoke 5 or less a day and try your best to stick with that-knowing that once in a great while you'll smoke a little more than that.
I got the generic brand of nicorette and that helped out a little but it tastes really bad but the withdraw cravings DO GO AWAY when you chew on it.
I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there.

NObody is writing anything. Trying to quit smoking.... I've been craving a cigarette sooooo badly lately. I'm ready to go out and buy a pack just so I can smoke one. Maybe I can find someone to bum one off of and I'll pay them a buck for it. I just want one. I'm really, really, REALLY craving one.
I can almost smell it and feel it going into my lungs.

Hi Nothemama and Ray,
Thanks for caring Ray. It's been since Thanksgiving. I only cheated once with a puff-wasn't worth it. I'm feeling better now. Thank you. Ihope you're doing okay, too.
Nothemama, I know you REEEEAAAAAAAAALLLLY want a cigarette and you're convinced that if you don't have one that you're going to rip someone's head off-but this will pass, it will. It won't be easy but it will wear off, eventually.
Try doing something that will make you get out of breath. You have to do something that's going to make you lose your breath like aerobics or beating up a pillow really good-anything. If you can do that then you'll feel better right away. I asure you. Getting yourself out of breath gets rid of the cravings for some reason. Drink lots and lots of water and whatever you do-DON'T CHEAT AND TAKE A PUFF!!!!! It's not worth it. It'll make you feel like crap.
((((((((Nothemama))))))))))
Hang in there. You can do this!!!
