So I started a diet that my moms been on for a few months, which she has lost 30 pounds on so far. It was about 3-4 weeks ago that I started this diet. I've tried SOOOO fricken hard and even have been exercising myself to death and all I've lost is 5 pounds and I gained one of those back somehow.

I'm sooo tired of dieting and exercising and doing everything right the healthy way and not getting results! *sigh* I'm about ready to start back being friends with bulimia. I'm just so tired of it all. What do I do?! Desperate to lose weight...

((((Bama)))))

Maybe see a nutritionist about finding a diet that will work for you.

You don't want to start purging again (even though you think you do). Its so bad for you.

It could be you metabolism is messed up from bulimia. Are you exercising?

Yes, I'm exercising at least 4 days a week... I do pilates and taebo (switch them up every other day) and I walk/jog at least a mile each day.

My endocranologist (sp?) has put me on meds for my thyroid and high cholestoral but hasn't given me a strict diet to abide by. Need help. Desperate to lose weight... I don't WANT to start purging again, but I don't want to be fat anymore, either.

(((((((((((((((((bama))))))))))))))))))) honey, i know it's hard. i've dealt with weight issues for my entire life. now, my youngest (18) does too. she has borderline hypo-thyroid. poor thing. not only is it heredity, but she has a physical disorder as well.

give the meds some time? they won't give daughter any as it's not low enough to justify the thyroid hormone. it may take a bit of time and may need a higher dose.

don't give up. even if not losing fast enough, the exercise and eating healthily has many wonderf health/emotional benefits as well. try and concentrate on that while the other is kicking in?

gl sweetie,

kd

(((((kimmy)))))

I've been on the cholestoral and thyroid medication for over a year now... It helped me lose a little weight to start with because it leveled out my thyroid, but now it's come to a hault. Nothing seems to be working. I've been exercising (sometimes to an extreme), I've been eating right, not taking in any sugar whatsoever, and I've stop eating lots of bread. I don't know what else to do. Some of the meds I'm on has decreased my appetite, but I still can't lose the weight. I come from a heavy set family, but if my mom was able to lose 35 pounds within a few months, why can't I? Desperate to lose weight...

I've lost around 70 pounds in all since November of last year, but in the recent months it's all stopped. I've gained a few of those pounds back, actually. I'm trying sooo hard and getting no results. In a way, it's making me feel like a failure, which I know I'm not. It just really sucks... I am finally able to get into a size 14 jeans (I used to be a size 24-25), and now they are getting snug on me. I DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL! Desperate to lose weight...

I know how you feel, I am going through the same thing myself. I have been overweight most of my life. I am considering starting Herbalife. My friend went through this and she lost over 100 pounds. She went through a total change, mentally and physically. I currently weigh 220 pounds and take a bunch of medications like metformin and lisinopril because i have diabetes, hypertension, and PCOS.

I have PCOS as well, rlopez... They have me on birth control for it, they said the birth control will help me have a period and that'll keep the PCOS under control, but I haven't had a period in 3 months! Desperate to lose weight... So I don't know what to do about that.

What is this Herbalife? Sounds interesting.

My doc thinks I may have PCOS (I will know more Thursday). If the meds you are on aren't helping, you need to see about getting them switched. They have me on a 35 microgram pill right now ("normal" dosage is 20 micrograms).

As far as losing weight, if you are exercising to excess sometimes, is it reasonable to assume you are building muscle? Muscle weighs more than fat. That may be why you aren't losing weight. Do you notice any difference in how your clothes fit? That's usually a better weight loss sign than just plain numbers.

You sound like you have great willpower. You could teach me a few things. Fighting to not develop an eating disorder is hard work. Give yourself some credit. I hope you get some answers soon. Thinking of you.

Thank you 1day, appreciate the thoughts.

My cloths seem to be getting a bit snug in the waist/hips area. I just don't understand it... I'm not lifting weights, just jogging/walking, and doing pilates and taebo some. You'd think if it were muscle weight, my cloths would still be getting bigger on me rather than smaller. I FINALLY got down in a size 14 after 10 months of trying to lose (lost close to 70 pounds) and now they are getting snug. urg!

Could you have just hit a plateau weightwise? Muscles still take up space...think of how big those bodybuilders are and they're in great shape!

I know you're frustrated...but you keep fighting..that is commendable. I will keep hoping that things get better. If I find any helpful info I will pass it along.

Thanks 1day, would appreciate any info you had.

Hope, I'm so sorry you've had to resort back to purging. You're right, it's easy for some to lose and so hard for others like us. I hope one day soon you can find a new method to lose weight instead of purging. I truely know how you feel and it's such a bad feeling. I purged once yesterday and couldn't get much up, so I didn't try again. Just didn't eat anymore yesterday.

What birth contol pill are you on? They all have different levels of hormones, which can somewhat affect your weight. In my experience, I was on the pill for a year (orthotricylclen) and when I stopped taking it I dropped from 110 to 100 in less than 3 weeks., without ANY changes to my exercise ot diet. Of course I was anorexic, and exercised way too much, but the point is that your birth control can make your body hold onto more weight, even when you're starving yourself. You can talk to your gyno about low-dose estrodiol hormone birth control pills (orthotricyclen is now only low). Also, do you have amenorhea (no menstration)?

I am going through some weight issues right now too. I have been way underweight (about 10 lbs) for the last 6 months. Initially I was in the hospital with IV nutrition when I couldn't eat at all. Lately, my nutrition has been ok but I have been ending up dehydrated & in the ER with IV saline & potassium. After the last ER visit, I have noticed that I am retaining fluids & have gained almost 8 lbs in the last week. I really haven't started eating that much more & am working out daily with my dressage horse training. I haven't been out in the heat of the day lately so haven't been getting as dehydrated as I had been.....but I hate the weight. I hate to admit that I really want to loose most of what I have gained even though I am now at a more healthy weight but there is part of my mind that is rejecting where I am at right now. For a while, I could almost eat anything & not gain an ounce.....now.....I can't get even a pound to come off. For some reason when I weighed this much before it seemed thin, but now in comparison to what I was, I feel like I am totally bloated.

It is frustrating to not be able to loose the weight we want to loose. And to top it off, I thought my periods were over for good....but noooooo such luck....just adds to my desire to get the weight off again. I don't feel any better physically than I did when I weighed less so that isn't even a good reason for me to not loose the weight.

I hope you can find a way to lose those pounds you want to loose without having to resort to desparate means.

Debbie

I was thinking more about your situation (how you lost 70lbs then stopped losing weight) and it sound like you've hit a plateau in your weight loss. I know this sounds like I'm stating the obvious, but I mean that your body has adapted to the type/intensity of exercise that you're doing, and to get out of the plateau and lose more weight you have to try more intense or just different methods of exercise (like switch walking for running, or aerobics). In my personal experience, it has worked. Just a thought.
Hang in there, I know how frustrating weight loss can be -- as of late, my scale seems to be stuck, even though I've been working hard all summer. But then I've been doing the same work-out on the eliptical machine, so go figure. I think I'll probably lose weight in the fall when school starts and I'll be walking to all of my classes, which is what happened last year.
Good luck,
Jessie

That makes a lot of sense, never thought of that. I'll try getting a new workout tape to exercise to that's more intense and try to start jogging more. Thanks for the tip! ((((Jessie))))

Sigh this can be SO distressing! Remember, building muscles (which is what you are doing, toning etc) makes them weigh more, BUT they also burn more calories. Stay the course... eating healthily is good for the long run....

Hi Bama,
Have you considered a low carb diet? Not eating white bread, rice, potatoes, noodles and sugar can be very very helpful. Atkins, of course, is one example but there are many others. This helped me lose some weight fairly easily. Now, of course I need to go back to it as my sugar loving ways have returned!
Good luck!

Thanks for the tip, Kismet. I have tried a no sugar/no white flour diet. Lost a few pounds then gained them back even though I was still doing the exact same thing. Desperate to lose weight... Blah!

be very very careful with the Atkins or no carb diets. it puts more protein in you and can cause kidney issues. maybe it isn't how much you eat but more what you eat. I am suppose to be on some kind of diet right now since they found out I am also diabetic. Good luck bama!!
