Morning couch. My insurance company called again to explain what will happen from here on out. They said they will not just make the women suing me a offer right away because they did not accept liability from the accident. She said this will most likely carry through the discovery. She said that I will get a letter in a few weeks telling me who my attorney is, and what will happen. She said they will subpoena all the woman's medical docs, including any medical docs from a prior accident she was in. (the driver got out of the car and told me the passenger was in a accident a couple months before that and was hurt) so they want all those records. She said down the line I will need to give the attorneys a deposition and then from there they decide who's more believable. and based on that they may make an offer. I told her the documents state they demand a court date but she said they all say that. she said this will proceed through the 300 day discovery and it will take awhile. So...now its just waiting for the next thing. My insurer said this happens everyday. I said it seems like a lot of hassle for someone to make a couple grand off of someone else..She said exactly. So that's it for now. Down the line I will have to give the lawyers my statement. But as she said this could go on for 2 years before she sees any money.

Keeping busy is good. I hope you'll have a good trip.

I've been booking trips like a whole herd of migrating mammoths, lately. I'm going to the UK in early February, and early March, and in mid-April, and possibly late April, and then to the UK and Ireland in August... and I've just realised that I'm not sure when my passport expires. I should check that when I get home. I have plenty of time to renew it before February, but I don't want to leave it until it's too late.
Hmm. No, I think I'm good, because I seem to remember that I had to get a new one when I travelled to the U.S. in 2007 (because my old passport had a tiny crack in one page), which means that that one expired in 2012, so I would have had to get a new passport then, and in that case I'm good for another three years. I know that in the U.S. lots of people don't have or need a passport, but from what I understand it's much more of a hassle to get one there.

Sorry, I babble. I'm trying not to be all disgustingly cheerful after this morning's T session.

Hi everyone...

(((Granite))) so brave. I know it hurts, we are all here for you though.
Shout Out to MKAC!
Shout Out to RTS!

Yesterday was nuts...I was in the car all day, finally sat down at a lecture on Coywolves last night. It was interesting, but I have to say that by the time it ended I was nodding out. lol.

Today is a quiet day. I have mom's EOY done, and I need to start on my own. I still have a few clients left, and I need to do theirs as well, but they haven't sent me the info yet, so there's time. I usually try to finish EOY crap by 2/1.

Jerz...it does literally take a few years. You panic every time a new document comes in the mail. When the attorney takes your deposition, it is really not bad. Nothing to be scared of, they are on your (well, actually your insurance company) side. I know it's frustrating, but try not to think about it too much.

Thanks Wiki...everyone is telling me my freaking out is unnecessary. If there is anything at all....they will settle after deposition. I won't see a judge or a jury.

But I'm sure the couchies will all bail me out of jail if it goes to court, right. and I expect MKAC and SD to tag team them. Hahaha

It is a civil matter, not criminal. You won't go to jail unless you commit contempt of court.

I have to admit, when I saw you said you had plenty of time to renew your passport before February I was like WAT. It really is a pain over here, which might be why a lot of people don't have one. Although, the upside is, it's valid for 10 years. Which of course makes it easier to forget that you have to renew it.

I had forgotten to renew my passport last year and had to "expedite" the process... I forget how much time that actually saves you, but I still think you need to leave about two weeks if you do that. On top of that, I had changed my name (I got my passport at 18, and got married at 27) and so had to fill out some extremely unclear paperwork for that... it was a fun time, where by "fun" I mean not fun at all. But I got my new little blue book in time to visit the Low Countries and the UK last spring .

Good luck with all your travels!

Is it true like what they show in the TV shows where sometimes the judge throws the attorneys in jail overnight for contempt? Haha

Hi Jersey! I have no idea what happened, sounds like you got into a car accident and the other person is suing you? Ugh. I haven't had that experience yet, but my parents did and the whole insurance thing was really protracted and prolonged. The accident itself really wasn't a big deal, but when someone decides to sue... not fun. Good luck with it. I'm sure it'll feel less and less like something to worry about as time goes on.

Thanks for asking after the little one. Everything is ok as far as I know. I can feel some movement, but the feelings are mostly really vague and I can't be sure it's not something else shifting around in there. I get another ultrasound next week, and I'm excited about that! In the meantime, I am eating ALL THE FOOD. Small belly, but if you didn't know I was pregnant you might just assume I was just putting on a little weight.

I hope you're well, Jerz . I work with a Jersey guy, and one day we had a conversation about "It would be a real shame if..." Can't you go all "It would be a real shame if your car were to suddenly become more damaged overnight for no apparent reason" on this lady? It's Jersey!

I'm glad Baby Brown seems to be hanging out enjoying him/herself in there. Enjoy the food! The eating for 2 argument applies! Haha!

I won't be surprised if HER car got more damaged overnight. But...the accident was 2 years ago. I didn't handle it properly. I didn't take pics of her car or call the police. Oops. I know for next time. My H would not shut up about it at the time how I didn't take pictures and how I didn't call the police.

Anyway..onward...just wait and see.... The couch attorney said I won't go to jail...so...we are good.

It used to be 10 years here as well, for people over 18 - I think we had to change to 5 years for everybody when we joined the EU. In any case it's supposed to take less than five working days to get a new passport. A friend of mine, who is originally from the US, got all freaked out when she received a message from the police the day after she'd applied for a Swedish passport just after becoming a citizen - she thought they were calling her in for more interviews or something, but it turned out to be her new passport, waiting for her.

That's funny! I'd have been terrified too. Makes some measure of sense that they would have you renew more often after joining the EU... with the increased ability to travel within the EU, it becomes a little like a driver's license here, which is what most people use to travel within the states.

Ooh, good luck! I'm a nervous presenter. I do ok once I'm up there but I freak out beforehand every single time.

Ok so during my therapy session today my therapist and I talked a lot about my fear of failing and things like that. Here's an excerpt:

T: how would you feel if that happened? What would you do? Would you kill yourself?
Me: I would probably feel like dying, yes. I mean, I wouldn't do it but I'd really hate myself and I'd probably want to die.
T: then maybe you should just do it? Perhaps you should kill yourself?
Me: no.

His tone of voice suggested that he was being serious but that he didn't mean what he said (at least I think so). He does that a lot and a lot of the time I don't know if he's serious or not (in this case I think it's quite obvious he didn't mean it, since I doubt any sane therapist would encourage their client to take their own life). Anyway, is this some sort of legitimate method he's decided to use to make me realise how ridiculous (or whatever he thinks) my thoughts are or what? I don't get it. It puzzles me. It sort of makes it seem like he doesn't take me seriously all the time and I think it makes it seem like he belittles my thoughts.

What do you think?

That's pretty freaking disturbing! I can't understand what he's trying to achieve here. I agree that it sounds as if he's belittling your thoughts about wishing to die, and it's also a really weird way to go about it. Is he trying to get you to motivate why you don't want to kill yourself? If so he's not being very good at conveying that that's what he is doing, right?

Seriously, this guy sounds too weird.
Thanks for this!
