I tend to feel really awful after I exert myself like that, too. Running for any amount of time makes me feel like I'm going to die--and it always has. In fact, I sometimes have a panic attack not long after exertion. T1 said I was the first person she knew who feels *worse* after exercise (thanks, T1--who still plays tennis at 70...).

T2, who is also trained in sports psychology, told me something interesting though. People who participated in sports/were otherwise very physically active when kids/teens tend to feel positive effects from exercise when they're adults. But people who weren't particularly active as kids (me, for example) often feel worse after exercise as adults, like they don't get the so-called "runner's high" or anything like that. It made me feel better for hating exercising (other than yoga or walking) and often feeling worse afterward.

Still might be good to get your heart checked out, just in case...
Thanks for this!

The kittens are still with the friend in nyc. They don't have homes after three months of searching. I can't believe it. But maybe people don't want kittens for the same reason I didn't want a kitten.
If there is a breakable item you care about - I would move it. I have had a lot of cats in my life - they are masters at breaking things.

That is interesting, LT. I was not an especially active child (although I liked climbing trees) and I don't tend to feel better after exercise - though I think that's partly because of my health issues.

I have already been referred to a cardiologist because of other symptoms involving my heart, I expect it'll be a few months before that happens though.

The only exercise I feel good after is hiking in the woods or desert. Aerobic dance or weights or anything like that feels like it's gonna do me in.

Exercise stresses the body out (releases cortisol). If you're not accustomed to it, the body doesn't know how to handle it and does its best to make you stop. Hence the misery.

I enjoy exercise, but it took some time to adapt (I wasn't an active child, either). I don't always enjoy it while doing it, but the feeling afterwards more than makes up for it. I'm planning to spend a lot of the holiday at the gym/pool/doing shaky yoga.
Thanks for this!

That makes sense. T2 also commented on something I myself had observed--how aerobic exercise can feel quite a bit like a panic attack in itself--fast heartbeat, getting hot, sweaty, breathing heavy, etc.

Hm...not to be TMI, but I guess sex can be like that too. Which could explain why I've sometimes gotten panicky during that (or felt panicky afterward), too...Hm, topic for a future session (since I've already managed to broach the sex topic with him and felt less weird about doing that than I expected to--perhaps because I don't have the whole maternal or paternal thing with him--well, at least not yet!)
Thanks for this!

I find it hard sometimes to start exercise (I am a fan of ellipticals, yoga and weightlifting if indoors and fast walking if outside) but once I get started - I love the feeling.

ATAT - can you clarify 'shaky yoga'? I'm digging into trauma release type stuff, and wonder if there's any overlap. I would dig deeper if I didn't live in the back end of nowhere.

I feel I should have been more firm and less depressed the day program does have teachers but in the beginning they thought it was best to keep her distance ed in routine. I tend you yell when I get frustrated and it was very frustrating

Shaky yoga is SD’s term for it. Whole body vibration yoga is more apt. Whole body vibration is an exercise fad, lots of claims, can’t judge them myself, but it’s fun and challenging.

We stand on vibrating platforms and do yoga. You can’t do all the poses—no heads or tailbones should make contact with the plate. Not allowed to be on the plate for more than 20 minutes.

Naturally my balance is better on the plate than off it.

You can get a vibrating mat to use at home.

If you are wondering if it could help relax you, it’s very much yoga as exercise, not yoga meant to help with trauma or meditation.
Thanks for this!

Great minds think alike, una... Purrfect composition can't be pure coincidence, in this case.
