Its nothing new, it comes and goes and I don't know what triggers it. But, apparently i'm in one of these spells again.

- I am very tired.
- I decide to go to bed, thinking I will just fall asleep when I hit the pillow.
- I get in bed, toss and turn for about 30 minutes and finally drift to sleep.
- I wake up what seems like an hour later, and it's only been 10 minutes.

My body is trembling inside and my heartbeat feels like its going insane. I'm wide awake; my teeth hurt from grinding them. My head hurts. It's just intense and horrible.

I've tested my blood pressure; normal (117/76). My pulse is only at 76 though it feels like a hundred.

I don't get this all the time, only when i'm extremely tired - but thats why i've been going to bed. Except, it takes forever to go to sleep which cuts out resting time.

I could be hypomanic right now, though i'm not sure if that has something to do with it or not but i've made sure to stick to a strict sleep schedule the best I can just in case. I just need some peace and some rest. I would have done tea before bed had I know it would happen, but now i'm in bed and trying not to wake my body up too much in addition to trying to cope with the shaking.

Does anyone else have this?

Blood sugar? Plus your heart rate seems a little high to me. Also the bp. I mean, yeah its normal, but when i was young and and in college my bp was like 90/60. But i was in high denial. Plus low blood pressure was genetic and i used to walk a lot and not drink coffee. Then i started working and it all went to heck.
Thanks for this!

I think the heart rate is a little high considering I had been sleep and not moving just before that. In general though, I have a high pulse and when i've had coffee or tea its not uncommon for it to reach 100, with me not really feeling it too badly until it hits 110.

I don't know...I really think its anxiety related since it comes and goes.

The blood sugar idea may actually be hitting on something though... I just have no way of checking that and I hate to ask my doctor for things that make me look crazy.

I ended up downloading this sleep sounds app that worked fairly well to get me back to sleep. I woke up three more times in the night but not as panicky.

Thanks Hankster

Yo! I would get those heart rates checked out. I think i went to 120 once and it was very unpleasant. They can do two tests at the drs office - go in fasting (no food or drink except water for 12 hours) and they can check your blood sugar immediately, and they can also draw blood to get an average for the past 3 months. Sleepy could mean low or high, i would think. I remember feeling shaky like that. I think prozac masks those feelings now for me, or something else im taking.
Thanks for this!

Sorry to hear bumblebee! I'm no expert, but it sounds to me like it could be anxiety or RLS...I'm sure you have got it checked but it is also possible you might have iron deficiency. Treatment- Neurontin- it helps with insomnia, RLS, and anxiety. Best of luck and hope that helps a bit.

Yup, see I refuse to really go on medications like that ... a bit stubborn in that field due to a sui attempt long long ago. I actually just had a doctors appt. today (actually a follow up to go over labs) and they'd checked for diabetes, prediabetes, etc. and i'm clear for all of those. So in that regard i'm clear which makes me think I am probably leaning more towards anxiety.

Also, my pulse was like 80 something today and they didn't say anything about it being abnormal or anything lol.

I bought this sleep body wash stuff today and will add that to my sleepytime tea and strict schedule regiment and see if that helps I guess. I'm glad you can relate though i'm sorry you had to, because that feeling is horrible.

Thanks Vans, I do have anxiety but its linked to depression, of which I have not been lately. Why must my body be so confusing lol. I do have a low iron, but its nothing that my doctor was concerned about. I've been on iron pills two or three times (I only take them until I feel better ) and i've found that I tolerate organic beet root pills well when it comes to that. I didn't realize that iron could impact your sleep in that way, so I may actually go get that checked out if it progresses!

I get a similar reaction from time to time. Personally I think I'm having some kind of nightmare that I don't remember and my waking up and the shakes after and everything are a reaction to that nightmare. Maybe something similar?
Thanks for this!

So, it's been pretty decent lately and then last night I jumped up and once I was able to calm down and gather my brain, I checked my pulse and it was 134! - and that was after I had a chance to calm down and get myself together to know what the heck was going on. I'm thinking if that continues I may have to swallow my pride (because public Teal does NOT have anxiety issues ) and just go see my GP.

You are not hypomanic. Some low grade anxiety is about it, going by your vitals.

Teal, every so often, I have panic attacks in my sleep. It is about the worst way to wake up. I am trying to start a new habit ( ) of stretching before I go to bed. I stretch every morning before I leave for work. Perhaps having a relaxing ritual before bedtime would help.

You're probably right, I don't even know anymore lol. It was a while ago now.

Funny thing is now that i'm waking up with my higher pulses, i'm not at all concerned that i'm hypomanic because I feel "stable" in my "awake life". Lol.

I'm sorry you have to deal with them too. It IS a horrible thing jumping up in the middle of the night like that. The other night I did so with a pulse of 134.

I've concluded that this is the most likely cause (nocturnal panic attacks). I think the relaxing ritual will def. help because I kind of started doing a similar thing already and its helped me really get good sleep.

I've decided just to document the nights I wake up with pulses over 120 (asked a coworker/nurse for a solid number) and if it begins to become too often i'll ask my doctor about it. For now, its random so i'm ok; just sucks because i have no idea what causes them lol.

Just my two cents in- keep track of what you eat before these episodes happen. You may have a "sensitivity" to something in the food you eat - such as Chinese food with MSG, certain candy and cookies-, I know that some cookies I eat will set my heart racing! And before I forget- do you eat bananas? A banana before bed may help you sleep, too many bananas can set your heart to racing. After all that, if this continues, worsens, or becomes more frequent ( of course consult your doctor) but it may be a hyper-active thyroid- this will cause elevated pulse, blood pressure, and heart racing-lie symptoms.
Thanks for this!

Thanks; i'll check it out! I had a health eval for work recently and the highest my BP gets (when not anxious) is ~122/81. I've actually recently had my thyroid tested (for other reasons) and so it honestly may be the food! Tea (from work specifically) can run it up to 119-126 easy. Good idea! Thanks
