I did some Instacart shopping today, which is a good shopping for people. I think that should come as some sort of exercise.?

I decided not to walk today since it was cold out and I'd had a long walk yesterday. I did pilates instead

I did 330 ab things with my ab roller. And I've eaten just under 1,170 calories. I've been doing 50 push ups between commercial breaks.

@Buffy01 That is awesome!

I covered a long distance this morning - 7 miles. I powerwalked a lot of it, but I managed to jog 3 miles straight! I hope my quad will not be hurting too much from that tomorrow. I have a feeling other muscles will be sore just from not jogging in so long. I had no idea I could still run that far after taking quite a bit of time off from running. My mapmyfitness app estimated I burned 565 calories, which I have to work pretty hard to burn that much, my weight being what it is (but still normal for my height). Need to snack more today.

I did my crazy retail work shift this morning which was very active, then this afternoon I got a walk in the cold rain with my son and clocked up 20,000 steps - so I made up for the hot chocolate with everything on we got in a cafe. I have to say my seasonal eating has begun, some of that is stress from work driven and there’s a lot of food on offer in the staff room which is nice but maybe not the healthiest choice lol.

I walked yesterday and this morning. This morning I walked to the post office and back. I also had a personal training session today.

Weighed myself this morning. All that inactivity that followed my injuries in Sept and October added 7 lbs. But I won't be discouraged. I will keep exercising.

I did 300 reps with my ab roller today. I've eaten pretty well I think. Well, pretty decently at least. I did have a serving of Doritos with my meds this morning.

I am definitely sore from jogging yesterday, pretty tired too. My quad no worse than before though. Today I just did pilates. I LOVE the "Move with Nicole" pilates series on YouTube! First, it's free, which is always good. Second, I don't know how she does it, but she makes the time go by so quickly, you don't even realize you've been at it for 30 min.

Oh MD I love Doritos but I would have eaten more than one serving which is why I don’t get them in.

Blueberry I must try the Pilates you speak of, I need more postural work.

TartCherry it sounds like you’re doing good, that’s not too bad a weight gain either imo.

Another active work day so I’m counting that as activity, and a short walk afterwards got me to just over 14,500. I’m probably going to be a lot less active tomorrow though.

I envy though of you who are able to wear fitness devices to count your steps. I used to, but I got overly obsessive with it, ED-obsessive like, and I just had to stop it for my own good. I know cellphones can count steps too (I think) but I don't always have mine on me, so it wouldn't really give an accurate reading.

Blueberrybpok, I have heard of this type of obsessiveness. There is even a name for it, I think, ortho-something. Orthorexia for being obsessed with eating the right healthy foods, orthosomina for being obsessed with optimizing sleep etc.

I will have a snack and go for a walk to breathe in fresh air after it has rained. My favorite is walking while it is raining but after the rain comes a close second

Oh I understand that Blueberry, I’ve been through similar with my watch. I now no longer record my runs because it stripped the joy from running. I wear for steps but I no longer check daily and indeed don’t wear it every day. It’s a rough guide for activity levels for me now, and I rarely sync it on my iPad.

I hate walking in the rain; it is impressive that you enjoy it though. I don't so much like walking after the rain because the roads are slick and the trees are dripping. I love walking in the dark though.

I did pilates this morning because it was raining and thundering outside. We haven't opened Christmas gifts yet as my daughter went to bed very late (she's 17). I got myself a pilates mat and a pilates exercise band for Christmas (along with a pair of Crocs and some books)

Yeah, I think that is almost the ED I would have been diagnosed with except for an extremely low weight (around 80 lb. at 5'4") and loss of my period. I ended up diagnosed with anorexia-purging type, though the purging was thru exercise (also laxatives) and not vomiting. I think ED diagnosis can be a bit fluid.

I've been putting diclofenac sodium topical gel, 1% on it since I can't take oral NSAIDs because of ulcer history but this is apparently a topical NSAID, so the doctor says and it won't have to go through the digestive system. Used to be only by prescription but now they sell it OTC. I wish it were still prescription though as it cost less (about half the amount) when the insurance negotiated a price for it. Now, since you can buy it OTC, the insurance won't pay a dime on it.
There is something called Pennsaid, which is also topical, but it's meant for joint pain, specifically knee pain. Pennsaid is by prescription only, and might require prior authorization. And maybe your copay might be more than the Voltarin that you buy OTC.

Are you less obsessive about distance vs. time? This is the physics definition of power (in units of Watts or horsepower) and directly relates to energy consumption. Another unit might be derived: kcal/hour. This can be used to figure out how to "burn-off" an excess intake of food.

Question:

Someone wrote about having a personal trainer. How do you shop for one?

My wife had one whom she liked. But:
1. She (the trainer) moved to AZ or NM to pursue a degree in nutrition.
2. The fee also required an expensive annual gym membership, even though the training sessions were for a few - several weeks.

I think I did. And I also once had a trainer who was simply the best but who eventually moved from here to Utah. I had to shop for another one. How did I shop? On Yelp, on Google, looked for agencies that send trainers to your home. With my current trainer and the one who eventually relocated, I used two different agencies. Both times, after the trainers worked with me for some time via their agency, they offered me to work directly with them. Yes, it was in contravention of their contracts with their agencies but the agencies would not find out, right. And both times they thought that the agencies had reaped enough benefits via sending the trainers to me. Both times I saved $10 per hour when we moved from using the agency to my paying them via Zelle.

If you PM me, SPG, I will send you the names of both agencies I have used

I’ve never had a personal trainer but my son’s friend is one, I believe he gets work through recommendations/word of mouth. He’s worked freelance running classes at gyms and think he also makes contacts that way. He makes a lot of money but works hard, he tailors his advice to the individual and this includes nutrition.

Well I ate a lot today but was not too bad on activity- I forgot to bring things to a gathering this evening and had to make two separate trips back home to get them so that got me moving…
