This reminds me about a debate my coworkers and I had about 40 years ago. Is it better to exercise on an empty stomach? Or should you eat first (lightly) and then exercise.

I've always sided with the empty stomach approach. This is how we functioned when we had to work for our food (hunt or harvest it) prior to fast food era. Digestion requires energy, which will hinder your ability to exercise. Besides, I'd always get stomach cramps back then, even if all I did was drink water before exercising. As well, look at how some animals exert themselves to prey on game, then engorge themselves and sleep or lounge for several hours.

OTOH, when you eat a light meal first and then exercise, any excess calories (blood sugar) are diverted, preventing insulin build-up and fat accumulation (or at least that's how I understand "their" argument).
My husband is a mall walker, it’s a godsend in the cold weather for him if a little boring.

I feel like the food before exercise is whatever works for the individual and depends on intensity. As I run you can imagine I’d be sick/get cramp if I ate before, even a small amount would do that. So I run on empty and never had any problems. This wouldn’t work for everyone however.
Thanks for this!

I did 700 reps with my ab roller. I could have eaten better. Calorie wise it was ok though.

I'm feeling better today though was still a little weak this morning. It was cold outside, had frost on the car windshield, so I stuck with pilates. It turned out to be nice this afternoon though. I can only hope the weather is going to start warming up a little again.

Why do I keep gaining a pound a day? I'm working out everyday pretty intenstly. I count calories and I eat ok. Yet I'm just piling on weight really fast.

Ok my weight wasnt as bad this morning as it was last night. But I'm still bouncing around the same few pounds. Unless I'm gaining muscle or something from all my working out. I see my doctor tommorow and he might lower my med due to that high blood level and that might help a bit with weight loss.

I googled that, and it looked like it could have been due to dehydration. Maybe your weight is fluctuating due to water? Do you have one of those scales that measure body composition? They figure out what percent of your weight is bone, fat, water, muscle. They are around $50.

It is also best to weigh yourself the same time of day, first thing in the morning is best, at least that's what I do. You eat & drink stuff throughout the day, and your body needs time to digest it all. Dehydration can also be a factor.

It was drizzly today, so I stayed in and did pilates, pity because the morning temp was up to 50F, and it would have been decent to go walking. Oh, well, maybe tomorrow.

I did not work out today and I weighed myself and I have gone down. I've had that issue before with not losing weight with excercise. But losing when I don't. I don't get it unless it has something to do with water and dehydration like Una and Blueberry said. I've often wondered before if I have this issue because of my chronic kidney disease.

I've also been way less hungry today for some reason.

Stretching only on Sunday. Missed Orange theory because I slept too long and woke up 15 minutes before the class started. Not enough time for me to drive to Orangetheory.

Rest days are good for you to rest your muscles & recuperate. I have trouble taking them, but I have noticed the next day, I feel exercise is a lot easier. Stretching is wonderful for the body; I really need to do more of it, especially for my lower back and neck.

This morning, the temperature was in the mid-40s, so I finally got to power walk again I took a very long power walk, 7 mi, and the last 0.5 mi was hard, but there was nothing to do for it but keep going until I made it home. I could have slowed down, but I get stubborn and want to just keep going. I started when it was dark this morning; the full moon was out, very bright, just brilliant. For some reason, I really love walking in the dark. Part of it is I'm sensitive to sunlight; first, due to having blue eyes, second, due to some of my meds. I also like to get an early start exercising as I start my day.

My weight at the doctors was really bad. He told me to up my workout and meet with their nutrionisit. I looked at this diet I'm supposed to be on for my gastroparisis. I need to avoid too much fat. High fiber foods. Too much dairy and cheese. Too much liquids. And tough to chew foods. And greasy and deep fried foods.

So I can eat stuff like white rice, eggs, white bread products, chicken and turkey with no skin, fish, certain fruits, certain vegetables, and sweets like angel food cake and dark chocolate.

I see the nutrionist at 9:30 on Wednesday morning. Then I'll have to go shopping.

I am finally at the weight at which I was before my injuries in the fall made me pause much of my exercise.

I will go for a long walk not. You inspire me, Blueberry!

I was pretty tired this morning from that long power walk yesterday, so I did a pilates video, which is easier on my body than power walking. And it got cold outside AGAIN! And even colder weather is coming with lows down in the 20F's...Brr!

My dietician told me I need to eat 2000 calories a day or I won't see progress. I was trying to stick to 1200. 1500 maximum. She was like "wow." When I told her. She gave me a lot of suggestions on how to handle my GI stuff my weight. She gave me a list of foods to eat and some meal ideas. When I got home I ordered a bunch of foo foo food.

Some skinny guy gave me a kinda dirty look and smile when he saw my weight. Idk who he even was. He was carrying an ipad and just hanging around the office.

The things I have planned out to eat today are
2 graham crackers with a cup of creamy Jif To Go peanut butter
A serving of animal crackers
Tuna on Wheat Thin crackers
A Daisy cottage cheese with peaches cup
A peeled apple
A serving of cornflakes with a cup of almond milk
An Atkins shake
Another cup of almond milk

That will put me at only 1,285 calories, 184 carbs, and 63 grams of protein. My fat is 45 grams and my fiber is 13 grams. Idk if thats ok or not for my GI stuff.

After having some careful safe runs on frost last week in the sun zero temperatures it rained Friday night and froze like glass over the weekend, I stayed home Saturday and Sunday carefully managed to walk to work. Then it began to thaw - and Monday morning the ice had partially gone but I managed (in the dark) to hit one of the remaining patches, up in the air and landed mostly on my butt but split my elbow with a crack. I think I might’ve carried on working regardless but my colleague took me to hospital to get checked out and I’ve got steri strips holding it together and a dressing. Otherwise I’m just achy from the jolt and glad I didn’t break my arm like another poor colleague did. Why the heck they don’t grit footpaths I’ll never know.

Anyhow no running for a few days, just very gentle stretches.

The more fruits & veggies you can work in, the better, what you can eat with your guidelines. But aren't you supposed to eat more calories according to the dietician? By undereating what your body at your current weight/height/age needs to loose weight, you slow down your metabolism. It's part of why people with EDs like anorexia put on weight very fast when they start gaining again because their metabolism has slowed so much. Same sort of principal here, just less extreme.

And it goes without saying that exercise is a good way to help speed your metabolism & lose weight. I know you do pushups but can you walk? I know it's cold outside, but if you have a treadmill, maybe?

As for me, it was raining again this morning! Pity because it would have been warm enough to go walking. So I did a pilates video, a different one than I've tried before in the beginner's series, and I am going to be so sore tomorrow! This one had you holding the plank position forever, then lifting ond knee up staying in the plank, then switch knees, etc. And it kept you in the bridge position without a break for a good while; bridge isn't as hard as plank, but staying there awhile, yeah, it starts working your muscles pretty good.

I was bummed about the rain because really cold air is coming over the weekend, and I will definitely be exercising indoors then. It's times like this I miss belonging to a gym.

@Discombobulated - I've definitely taken a few hard falls (rarely on ice because when it ices here, everything shuts down, no one goes anywhere because no one knows how to drive in weather like that!). However, I've done several face plants on uneven sidewalks, resulting in bleeding, scrapes, bruises, and once microfractures in my pelvis (extremely painful and a fate I wouldn't wish on anyone especially as they fail to show up on image initially and doctors write you off as painseeking and once someone listens to you to finally image you again, the fractures all show up, they send you straight to pain management ASAP but by then it's hurting less and beginning to heal I hope you start feeling better; taking it easy for a few days sounds like a good plan.

I did eat half an avocado today. She said half was ok since its healthy fat. I ate 2 bananas last night. I got some apples I can eat but I have to peel first since the skin is hard to digest. I also have a jar of peaches in light syrup. I can't eat any raw vegetables.

I had 1,524 calories today. It is low but actually legit eating for once instead of drinking 5 cans of soda, and the increase in metformin is making me full easily.

I do have a treadmill. I just find it boring.

I did 430 reps today with my ab roller. I have had 1,122 calories so far. 99 carbs and 37 grams of protein. This new weight loss/GI diet is kicking my appetite in the *** so I've been trying to get enough calories. Its been at least healthy calories.
