My therapist inspired me to finish the crocheted blackbird pie. Had another idea how to do it. Took the last few hours to execute my brilliant new version. Looks like a seal. Try again.
Thanks for this!

Same here. I am definitely a woman (cisgendered), I just don't really feel feminine all that often. Definitely more of a backwards baseball cap type!

Bookmarked this! Sharing this with others will be a lot easier than trying to explain it all myself--I usually just make people more confused.

When I was in Jr High (now Middle School) I had long braids and, thanks to my conformist mother, dressed like everyone else (except for the quirky proto-hippy clothes I made in Home Ec), was an imaginative sedentary kid with a lot of traditional feminine interests like crafts, but I was also the only girl in the Chess Club and never thought twice about it, voted with the boys once on the next topic to study in a science class that was split 50/50 and never thought twice, and in general got on much better with nerdy boys. Now I have a buzzcut, consider formal clothes to be a suit and tie, am a loner and get particularly alienated by group anything or community anything, took on a gender-neutral name, never wore makeup and feel comfortable in my biological gender but am sometimes called Sir and am comfortable with that. I figure, anyone who cares can classify me however they want.

Okay, off the toilet and back to crocheting a ##@%&## blackbird.
Thanks for this!

If I ever finish it, which I will do or die trying, AND I can get the picture to post, I will definitely do that. Thanks for asking.

Was reading up on the Genderbread Person from the link posted here...the guy, Sam Killermann, who did that web site and wrote his book about the concept is a plagiarist, BOO.

Dang, that's pretty cr@ppy. Thanks for the heads up. I liked the Laverne Cox tweet: "those who lay the groundwork don't often get the credit." Good for those making noise about the plagiarism.

Tonight is a special night at my high school. One of our traditions is the Grand Ball, a prom held especially for our special education students. Hundreds of students, parents, faculty, and community members come together to transform our cafeteria into a wonderland for this very special night. Limousines bring the students to the school, and students arrive in style. Students volunteer to escort special needs students, tuxedos, gowns, corsages, and boutineers are provided, dinner is served, and the partying begins. Over 300 students, both special education and regular ed. come together for the festivities. THIS is why I love teaching where I teach and why I still have great faith in our younger generation.

My sons have been active participants in Circle of Friends, an organization of regular and special education students who come together for friendship and support. My middle son, because of this kind of experience, has decided to teach special education. Just wanted to share this. I love these kids and this school.
Thanks for this!

Lola, that's awesome... You're making this mom of a special kid cry. In a good way

Have to add one more picture. This is actually my son serving as escort at his high school's Grand Ball (same district, different high school). He did this for two years. Love my ginger!

It is a wonderful event. I just found out I way underestimated how many people were there tonight. They served almost 600 people. I am fairly certain it is one of the largest special needs prom events in the country, but we've been doing this now for 21 years. Other schools in our district do this on a bit smaller scale, but it is a growing movement.

I attended an inservice at the end of the year last year about the various Circle of Friends organizations in our district. The regular ed members from our high school spoke, and they have such passion and love for working with our special needs students. I knew that by having watched my sons dote over "their" kids throughout the last several years, but it was moving to see that this kind of involvement has the same effect on every single student who gets involved with Circle of Friends. It is one of the larger and most active organizations at our school.
Thanks for this!

Lola that's so awesome!

I'm thinking about sleeping but my feet are like ice cubes and the rest of me is uncomfortably hot, so I need to add sockies and subtract sweatpants from tonight's ensemble, looks like menopause is the winner! Couch 91 - Forget the small change

Thanks SD for the link to the genderbread guide. I was engrossed and reading out loud. DD1 kept saying "I know already, mom, okay mom, enough already mom. . ."
Thanks for this!

Good morning! It's Palm Sunday, so we are about to head out for church and the beginning of Holy Week. Bell choir plays today and I'm directing the procession. It's going to be a great service. We'll pretty much live at church this week between 5 services and 3 rehearsals.

Enjoy! My H and kids were upset that I am not going to church on Palm Sunday, but I told them I would go on Easter. Enjoy this special time, Chris!

ex-religious school survivor here - this week (and most of lent) was terrifying for me as a first and second grader. I had nightmares about it a lot.
