I searched up if The Carousel of Progress at The Magic Kingdom (Walt Disney World in Florida) is going to update the last scene. It's been 30 years since it has been. And I found a video that showed the 1968-1974 version of the last scene and then another which showed the 1980's version of it which is the one I would've seen at age 10 in December 1982. Also, talked with my mom about that trip and the trip 5 years later that our whole family went on. She said my grandmother paid for it from her inheritance from her mother- everything but food! That's airfare, hotel rooms and theme park tickets for 20 people! And then we went again in 1987 where my grandmother paid for most but not all of that trip too. Same- 20 people! I never knew this until today. Plus before the first trip my grandmother had hidden something telling us we were going to WDW under the plates at dinner and we -maybe not me or the kids in general- but the adults were to look and it was information about the trip. I knew "Gigi paid for our Disney trip..." But I didn't know it was basically all of both trips! The second time we stayed on Disney World property at the Polynesian resort- they now go for $771.50 per night! And that's for a family of 4. Actually, right now that resort is closed which is why I had a small difficulty finding a price! My grandmother paid that much -in 1987 dollars- for 5 rooms! We stayed 5 days or something! Anyway, this is just a trek down memory lane...

I have 5 cats so I clean the fountain once/week. The filter always has fur in it.

I'm so sorry, bizi. Try not to be impatient with yourself...it doesn't help. The only thing I know about is support groups. Have you ever been to AA?

Hi @~Christina. It's been lovely seeing you back, and I'm glad to read you got vaccinated.

Your typing seems quite good above. I hope that means you are healing, cognitively. It was worrisome seeing some of your typing difficulties these past several posts.

I didn't mind the grill pan's demise. I would have been more upset if one of my other cast iron pans cracked because they've been in my family for a long long time. The grill pan was comparatively new.
Thanks for this!

I tried the protein powders and protein shakes but they made me sick. Tried texturized vegetable protein. I swore off beans in August when i attempted to cook with them and it was a disaster. I've been making do with cheese which has a lot of calories and getting about 50% of my protein quota, which does nothing to help my muscle-wasting (54 woman).

But i plucked up my courage today and retried beans and I LOVE THEM!!! I'm so happy because they are inexpensive as well. I'm really thrilled! They're very filling also. I've felt sated for hours.

They're not low-cal tho. That's a myth. But they're high in fiber and that's another dietary goal of mine. So i'm just so pleased to have expanded the horizons of my diet!

I went in the ZOOM Drop-In again today and there was this really sweet woman who PMed me about my hair which i just got cut, she's very sweet and loving. There was a conflict and a man got angry and flounced out and unfortunately the leaders did not handle it well. Well, i guess there's fights on ZOOM just like in real life. Sigh!

I was up and showered and had my dog walked before noon! Who am i?!

It's my last night on 16mg of Valium in my benzo taper and i think i WILL go ahead with the next cut as even tho every night has not gone smoothly, i've had ENOUGH nights of decent sleep.
Excellent that you're ready to reduce your Vallium further, whatever2013! Keep going!

One thought of mine regarding your protein consumption issue was for you to consider protein bars. Some are expensive, but others not quite as much. Especially if they are on sale. Many taste a lot better than protein shakes.

As far as foods with protein, have you ever tried the firm tofu? Alone it is pretty dull, but if you gather a few sauces to put on it, it's not bad at all. The firm type fries nicely, even to a crisp. That also helps add appeal to it. Definitely serving it with veggies (maybe even with the same sauce on it) makes for a full meal.

Do you like eggs? They are inexpensive and loaded with protein. Generally they aren't bad for you, at all, as long as you keep the consumption to a reasonable level and use little or no fats when cooking them. If you can find a local farm raised type, then the chickens are usually humanely raised. My brother raises chickens and they live a most charmed life.

BeyondtheRainbow, I'm glad to read that you will soon feel comfortable getting out more. I think many of us will do so gradually, though. I can't help but think that when things do open up, getting out a lot might even be initially overwhelming.

Blue_Bird, all the best with the clozaril. I have never taken that medication, but have read that it is among the most effective antipsychotics for bipolar disorder. Save some of the possible side effects, it would likely be prescribed a lot.
Thanks for this!

Bizi, I do understand what you're going through. I had a heck of a time with alcohol abuse about 12 to 14 years back. One of the things that helped me a lot, initially, was the medication Campral (generic acomprosate). It is meant to help decrease alcohol cravings, but doesn't make a person sick if they drink. It was far more helpful for me than naltrexone. However, it was maybe about a year ago that my psychiatrist recommended that my father (who struggled with alcohol abuse) perhaps get a naltrexone injection. That ensures that people don't forget to take the medication, and also it is longer-lasting in the system. He said the injectable form seems to be more effective than the pill.

What really made me quit the alcohol abuse was that at one point I was on a bipolar medication mix that a) Made the taste of alcohol less pleasant, and b) Made me feel unwell when I drank as much as two drinks in a row. In the case of "b", it was not antabuse, just a particular bipolar medication cocktail. Basically it was one heck of a load of bipolar meds. I'm unsure which one or ones made that happen. That, or it may have been a psychological reaction to me having a number of serious incidents with alcohol.

AA is always an option. I had a period when AA was actually a trigger to drink, but the support works the opposite for many.
Thanks for this!

Well after lots of debate we gave up teaching our son how to drive. We're getting him a bike. We're requiring 2 hrs. of biking or driving a day. Until he either gets his license or can comfortably ride 3 hrs. and 30 min. and he's comfortable with riding anywhere he needs to go. I'm not comfortable with this but got a big hug (rare) and a thank-you.

Traffic here is horrendous. bus system is spotty at best and almost $90 a month. I worry for his safety biking but we've been trying to convince him for 3 years to drive and he's to worried he'll kill someone driving, he won't try driving. He needs some independence before moving. His schools 3 hours away by bike and longer by bus.

I’m doing good today. I went grocery shopping early around 8. It was still pretty crowded but it was ok. My mom didn’t think it was that bad. I spent about $80 but I got a ton of fruit, vegetables, frozen chicken, cheese, snacks, ice cream, some Easter candy, and cat food and cat litter. My moods are ok today. Actually they are pretty good. I had a good amount of caffeine because I woke up early so my anxiety was a bit high. These last 2 days I’ve been cutting my 1 mil Xanax in half and taking .5 four times a day instead of 1 mil twice a day. It’s been working out great.

I hope your son will give driving another chance. My youngest nephew would never drive. I truly think it added to his isolation. I drive and have since I was 16, but have never enjoyed long distances. Well, I don't drive long distances.

A bike is great exercise. That was my main means of transportation in Taiwan, when I lived there. That or I was even willing to walk 1 hour each way to my job there.

@Soupe du jour I hope so too. He has to choose between learning to drive for his minor or not drive. So I'm hoping he gets tired of practicing biking. It gives him more options as far as what he can do I guess. We got him a "cheap" foldable one so if he's ever stuck somewhere he can always call someone. It's white and I got him a new helmet with bluetooth because he was talking about ear buds and I worry about that. I don't want anything in his ears when riding a bike.

So many young people don't drive. It's interesting; to me, all I wanted in the world was my driver's license as soon as I could possibly get it. My daughter, who's 35, has never had a desire to drive. Her life is normal and successful; she either bikes or uses Lyft. My son and his wife live in San Francisco. They do own a car, but very seldom use it. They cycle everywhere in the city - and to other towns, too. I also have a nephew who has never wanted to drive. I don't understand how they all manage it, but they do.

Countdown to vaccine #1! In less than 48 hours I'll be vaccinated. I'm kind-of hoping I get sleepy so I can sleep for a whole day. I have this ongoing dream of being able to stay in bed and sleep all night and all day. I'm always driving at myself to get this and that done.

I don't like to drive and i'm not good at it. Too many quick decisions. I'm lucky to have good public transit. There is a hub just steps from my front door and i've never waited longer than three minutes for a bus. Our new train is just a marvel, i so love joy-riding it. You get the occasional ride-from-hell using public transit but it's so affordable and good for the environment i'll put up with it. I'm a big fan.

When I lived in the twin cities I sold my car and used public transportation. Parking was a huge hassle and expensive. One place I lived had three options, you could take your chances with street parking, pay $100 extra a month and park in a unpaved lot or pay $$$$ for a covered paved lot. It was cheaper to buy an unlimited pass, I could get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time. Back then the busses went right up to the malls and stores so it was better than driving. The busses all went to the museum s and historic sites and ran almost 24 hours a day. So you could go out to plays and theaters at night and get home. I usually took the bus to the grocery and then caved it home. There was no Uber back then. But when I moved to Austin Texas I had no choice but to save up for a car. Public transportation was lousy. It took hours to get any where and you had to wait for buses in dark dangerous places. Plus they stopped running by 9-10.

That is excellent! Whenever I've been in NYC I've loved riding the subway, and taxis, too. So convenient. And, it can even be fun. I've never lived in or visited any other place that had a decent public transit system. Paris' was pretty good, but NY's is better.

Hi everyone!
I see its been almost two years since I've last posted. Hopefully some of you remember me. I hope to be more active on here again. I miss you all!!
I've been feeling ok lately. New job with with much less stress. Actually, my previous job was the reason I haven't been on here much. I was working crazy overtime and was always exhausted to do anything else. Anyway, I'm also back in school to get my M.A. in forensic psychology and counseling. If you wanna know more just pm me.
At any rate, happy to be back. It took some effort to find this place again, but glad I did. I could use some friends.

Same here. When I was in high school I worked 20 hours a week during the school year & 60 hours a week during summers so I could afford to maintain a 10-year-old beater I bought, & pay for insurance & gas. Detroit is the Motor City, though; if you didn't have a car, you weren't getting around. As a side note, backseats back then were spacious! I spent many a night in the back of of that beast with my dates!

Tonight will be my first dose of Valium at 15mg in my benzo taper. That'll be a full 25% reduction. I slept well last night. I had a quiet day, walked my dog and attended the ZOOM Drop-In hour which was pretty tame. I reluctantly stepped on the scale and it was over 250. I've made two failed attempts to diet just this week so i finally emailed in to my doctor asking about our city hospital's weight loss clinic. It's a pretty intense two year program and i don't know if i will be eligible due to my bipolar. It's so hard to keep up year-round activities when i have four mood swings a year. They're probably not taking new patients now due to COVID but perhaps i could get on a waiting list. They'll probably be looking for evidence that i can commit to a long project so this benzo taper may be good proof, if all goes well.

I spent the day going through a memory stick of my late grandmother's photos. I found the two Disney World trips and got through them all and uploaded several from 1987 to this facebook group called Vintage Disney. I put up a bunch of photos. I hope they all post. Good things like tickets and stationary and photos of various places around Disney World.
