I don't like meat and often choke on it. (I do like ham if cooked correctly, bacon and sometimes chicken, but very little.) I have Ulcerative Colitis, so I can't eat salads. I can manage green beans sometimes. I can't eat eggs, but I can drink milk. I can't manage other vegies and almost no fruit.

Protein shakes are the only thing I can figure out to try. I have to get this extra weight off and the sooner the better.

Thanks,

Jan

GNC sells a "designer protein" that will help your immune system and will keep you "balanced" while you diet. it works wonders for my immune system. i don't eat anything with a face, so i have to have supplements.

i love hummus. that would be in my "top ten" of what i miss about living in New Mexico.......homemade pita bread, the cheeses, the chilies, the aromas of the healthfood store restaurant, the vegetable plate at Lambert's......the ease of having wholesome and tasty food at the drop of a dollar......... I would exercise a bit more. I just joined Curves and it's "easy" and is helping more with my health problems than messing with my diet has been the last year. I'm hoping to influence my blood pressure but my asthma is already much improved.

I enjoy Activia, one of Dannon's yogurt products for help with my intestinal problems. Seems to calm and comfort that area a lot and is pleasant, like a dessert, for me.

Although peanut butter in general is high in fat, two tablespoons on bread are yummy and give 16 grams of protein, no cholesterol and it's high in niacin.

Not all zero calorie beverages have artifiial sweeteners. The water I mentinoed with fruit does not. Neither does flavored seltzer or tea.

Jan, can you handle fruit and yogurt? Or even just plain yogurt (it really doesn't taste that bad, I promise :-) will give you some protein. How about cheese? If you have or can get a George Foreman grill you can make grilled cheese sandwiches without butter like you would need in a frying pan.

Really good yogurt is Activia yogurt, its got active bacteria cultures in it, really good for your digestive system. If you have that brand, or any brands with active cultures, i would reccomend trying it. It may help you balance your digestive system a little while your trying to lose weight.

(((((((((( Friends ))))))))))

Thanks to each and every one of you. I can eat yogurt. I normally can't handle peanut butter or any fruits unless they are canned and even then, very, very little.

I'll try to check out the designer protein shakes at GNC.

What is hummas? I have never seen any. I can get the real, old fashioned pita bread. Now that's some yummy bread!

Thanks again,

Jan

Yummmmm, hummus!!

hummus

I'm not sure how chi-chi grocery stores are in West Virginia How Does One Lose Weight Under These Conditions, but you can ordinarily find tubs of it in the refrigerated section -- sometimes around the imported cheeses or other "ethnic" food.

<font color="#000088"> Hey Jan.,you know I've been having similar problems with my GI tract for the last few months. We've chated a lot.But I have been able to mix together cottage cheese and apple sauce, and eat a little bit of that at a time, and it tastes really good to!Other than lately where I haven't been able to hold down even my fluids, but maybe the apple sauce might be lighter on your stomach than the bigger chunks, and if you can handle dairy,it's good with the cottage cheese,REALLY GOOD! How Does One Lose Weight Under These ConditionsWhen it comes to the weight loss,if you're not passing out like I am. Soy protein products are pretty good and tofu is fun to work with.

An English Muffin with peanut butter and a drizzle of honey is good: both the PB and the Engish Muffin have protein.

Hummus is good too--it is garbanzo beans.
Beans and lentils are good sources of protein and with some veggies and broth (vegetable is good!) makes a good, quick, and easy to digest meal.

I had several bouts of pancreatitis last year (ended up having part of it removed) and subsisted on cooked veggies, yogurt, and blueberries (which are so full of anti-oxidants), and fish when I was allowed to eat! The treatment is no food!!

I also took some Acidophilis (the active stuff in yogurt that's good for your digestive tract) that is available at the pharmacy in pill/capsule form.

I don't do protein shakes because I don't trust the makers of the powders, just my hang-up. But I do drink a lot of water. Water just helps my everything, it seems! How Does One Lose Weight Under These Conditions

My main diet now is soups, fish, cooked veggies, high figer cereals with fruit (blueberries!! no matter how much they cost!).

I have Ulcerative Colitis and though I love blueberries, there are little tiny seeds in them. I can't digest the skins either. How Does One Lose Weight Under These Conditions

I didn't know English muffins have protein! Thank you for that wonderful tip.

I've just got to do something. I must!

Hugs,

Jan

Jan might you look into the W.W. Points Sytem...... for it is not based on a certain food or not, but rather points per day - I have used this and you will loos the weight as you eat (just stay with in your allowed points).
