I think I was the only one who expressed concern about having to study for 8 hours. I think it was misunderstanding. I have zero issues studying laws/rules/facts and procedures etc

I couldn’t understand when you said you had to study things in your own resume, like you said you had to study what methods you used to improve traffic on the website. I felt that normal thing would be just answer what you did. If it’s something on your resume, it means you did it and you know it. Why study?

But other stuff I understand if you need to study it. Although it’s confusing if they want you to understand this stuff, is this new knowledge or they expect you to already know it? And how important exact percentage is? Like if you know that social signals are the lowest but don’t recall if local ranking is 4 or 5%? Is this new stuff? Do they want you to learn new stuff on the day of the interview? Or they just expect understanding of concepts?

Good luck. I am 57, I can’t memorize new stuff in one day. I could only brush up on stuff I already know. I’d need more than a day to remember exact percentage for each category.

Because I have to know SO much, I forget certain facts, or answers and I get flustered in interviews. They are very difficult in my field of expertise. I don't understand what is so difficult to grasp - yes, I have to explain the steps I took in two years' time to increase traffic on a website. It's not, oh, I just did X and it worked. It's I created new optimized landing pages per business location, I optimized and claimed each location's Google Business profile, I then optimized every product page on the website, followed by citation cleanup and citation building per business location, using the BrightLocal citation tool. And my next step involved content/article creation, targeting local audiences. OR, I have to describe what my process was for coming up with 90 unique blog article ideas and which tools I used. And the answer to that question also is complex.

I have to have these answers at my fingertips - I have to know all aspects of SEO, as outlined above, and the answers to any question asked about the results I've achieved that are outlined in my resume.

I cannot emphasize enough that this is very very very very difficult, and is likely a unique type of interview process that not many have to endure.

I forgot to mention. In addition to ALL of the above, I have to be prepared at any time to discuss the latest SEO trends and strategies, and the latest Google algorithm updates, and how they impact SEO strategy - more things I need to study and know.

On a different note, I am dreading Valentines Day. It's the anniversary of my 1st date with my husband. I am feeling very very sad about the ending of my marriage. It's hitting me like a ton of bricks.

I am trying to put this aside right now so I can focus on my interview today, but I just feel SO sad.

Well, I got nailed and cornered in my interview about what happened in my last job. He took me to task, and asked for my supervisor's name. Then I told him that I am not using them as a reference, since they do not know me that well. At the end of the interview, the CEO asked for two other references. So, I emailed my most recent boss, admitting to him that I have fibbed out what happened there. He said, if contacted, he will speak to my strengths, but will not lie, if asked a direct question. He also told me that he has zero animosity towards me.

So, I had been guided by my best girlfriend to reach out and do some damage control because I had lied. She thought it was best to be honest with my boss about lying, and to alert him, in case this prospective employer contacts him to ask questions about me.

So, that's that.

Good job. Honesty is the best policy in 99% situations. Your friend is wise. Hopefully when they call former CEO, they won’t dwell on specifics. I can’t imagine them asking for details.

I don’t think he’ll actually call my last company. I gave three other references, and told him I’m not using my last company as a reference. Do they call a company when it’s not in your list of references?

They call previous employer unless you indicate “do not call my employer”. I know people do ask for that if they still on their job, they don’t want their boss to know that they are looking. It’s common to ask for it.

But with a former employer they’d just call to confirm if you actually worked there. Not for references per se but to confirm the dates. I don’t think they can demand some kind of disclosure about quality of your work. Anyone can say they worked in The White House or Pentagon. Prospective employers call to confirm (if your job isn’t a public knowledge type of job)
Thanks for this!

Thanks - I did tell him I'm not using my last company as a reference. I said because they don't know me that well.

They call your references to discuss details about you as a professional. They call former employers to just confirm the dates you worked. So that’s why they might call if they consider second interview

My husband has offered to pay rent here and at his place, saying he wants to "date" me. Why suddenly he has the money now to pay rent at my place too, when he told me he didn't have $1000 for the chair? He would have to pay $900 extra in rent at my place, so he does have the money? I am confused.

When he wrote that, I was tempted to just say yes.

I spent the entire day yesterday watching movies in my beanbag chair. I did not move until 8 pm. So, for about 12 hours I was in my beanbag.

I am seriously depressed. The interview on Thursday really threw me off. That was the first time someone took me to task about my last role. I'm thinking and hoping it's an anomaly. No one else has questioned me on what happened in my last job. All recruiters have accepted my story, and even two different interviewers from another company accepted my story - two owners of the company. This guy though? He dug into it.

With the nice money he makes he certainly can have extra 900 next month. It’s not that much at all. Not for people who make good money.

Maybe if he won’t eat out every day or at all and won’t buy drugs and won’t go to bars to dance (and obviously buy drinks). Most people who make nice money but are broke are only broke because they mismanage their finances and live above their means.

Sometimes we need a day in a been bag chair.

I’d not “date” a man (new man or ex) because I am in a financial pickle. Wrong reason for dating. It never ends well.

He’s not authentic. If he really wanted to help he’d give you 1k when you asked or he’ll help with rent without mentioning dating since you are both on a lease.

He puts a condition on it. He’ll help if he can date you. Maybe he didn’t word it like this verbatim but that’s how he means it. This whole things puts him in a power seat. Then you’ll owe him.

I’d consult with recruiters what to say about reasons for leaving your job if you were fired. There must be a way to word it. Laid off?

^It may be hard to believe that this was the opposite advice given by some parents. I am reading more of myself in this comment than applies to OP. Just thanks for saying it, Divine.

This is what he wrote:

"if I could just date my wife for you to see I would cover my end of your rent in addition to my own to prove my worth. That would help you tremendously. I would just not spend a cent and eat beans to make it happen."

So to prove to you his worth, he’s going to cover rent and in exchange for that you have to agree to date him. And he adds extra dramatic twist about eating beans. Please. He’s smart though knowing what to say yo you to get you thinking. This dude is despicable.

Adding about eating beans just did it for me.

Longer you are focusing on him, longer it will take you to figure out to do with a job. It takes away from what needs to be a priority. That’s maybe what he wants. To keep you unsettled.
