I just reread my post about my unwanted weight gain and realise the 18 lbs. I've gained is since Feb '11, less than one year, not Feb '10.
![]() Yesterday I used the car to measure the distance of my little bit longer path. It is 1.3 miles! The usual one is .9 mile. I do try to do the longer one twice a day. It is raining now. ![]() Hoping you get good news with your upcoming doc. appt. F. If I may be nosey, what 'shots' did you have? ![]() ![]() ![]() Ops goals today, if I can't walk the 2.6 miles I will do some floor excerzies.

Oh Beholden, I am so sorry for mistyping the amount of weight. My mind is not what it used to be, literally, and I have trouble remembering things. I am sorry. I know how frustrating weight gain can be. It can be hard to turn it around but is definitely possible.
![]() To answer your question about the shots, I have been getting B12 injections for a deficiency. The new values were not as they should be, nowhere near in fact. I will have more tests this week and some decisions to make. Again I am sorry for missing what you said in your post. I promise to be more careful and diligent; I should know better given the state of things. Hopefully the weather will look better for both of us tomorrow to get out and get moving. ![]()

I went to visit family for Christmas and took its toll. I got a lot of exercise chasing, lifting, and carrying my nephew, trying to do "Just Dance" videos with my niece (was that funny, 'trying' is the key word there, floundering fish was more like it
![]() It reminded me it will be good to change things up for my exercises here at home as it was nice to try new things and incorporate them into daily routine, so as not to get bored. Exercise goals today: to walk the dog, rest, and figure out some new exercises to try. Happy Holidays y'all. Cheers. ![]()

I walk everyday so now that's a routine so I won't include it as a goal. Walking and running was usually my whole workout, but it left me pretty skinny lol and not with a whole lot of strength. So I started body weight stuff a while ago and it's great.
Yesterday my goal was 155 push ups, 70 sit ups and 50 squats which is done, ![]() Today it's 175 push ups and 100 sit ups and 80 squats. It's all about a half an hour routine a day including breaks and I add to it each day to improve. I prefer body weight stuff, not really into the whole weight lifting. I still have to try and start doing some pull ups, I've never been good at those lol.

DenisDonnacha,
Sounds like a nice routine. I wish there was a better/easier way to do pull-ups. I am so pitiful at pull-ups, pathetic even, but keep trying to do them too. ------ After a long debate I have decided to NOT to cancel the gym membership so I can have access to the pool; the rest I can do at home but will also still allow me to do some of their classes once in awhile and change up the routine. Walked yesterday and did some weights. Goals today: swim like a fish and walk with the wind. HA. ![]()

I'm looking into tae kwon do schools/studios for my 'exercise' needs. Right now most around here are closed for the holidays.
I need something to motivate me and think this may be it. Walking the dog right now is all I've been doing. It's great, but not enough. pull ups and real push ups are so hard for me. But sit ups are easier. Just not that many!!!!

I was given some good advice to help get more out of sit-ups by holding something weighted, medicine ball or weights, or at home if not weights, to use cans or bags of something such as dog food, potatoes, rice, etc. for resistance, you can get more out of your sit-ups in less time. I did not make it to swim, did but it was too crowded so I have to find a better time to go. So I did some yoga with the walking yesterday instead. Today I did weights and walking, freezing my butt and toes off. Needless to say it WAS a brisk walk, felt good though, but also didn't know I could move so fast. Tomorrow my goal is to try to swim again and going to go late in the evening closer to closing; see if it might be better. I began testing my blood sugar levels in the morning. Slightly high. I have begun to relax more for my anxiety attacks/stress and my heart rate has dropped back to a healthier heart rate. Down to 80 from 112. I see a dietician on Jan 23 to help with my diet options according to my personal health needs, and I walked for an hour today, getting my heart rate up to 150 during the walk. Now, I am drinking a combination of yogurt, orange juice, a banana, a protein mix, and a scoop of fibre. I hope I can continue this pattern. Motivation will be challenged when it is yucky outside or if I am near fast food places. I will need lots of motivation when weather is bad lol.
Thanks to my doctor, I am also sleeping better. |

Hi Ingrid2,
The steps you are taking are inspiring. I came home from the doc with some instructions that I was not sure how I was going to manage them and then read your post; it was encouraging to me. Thank you. It is hard for me too when the weather gets bad and finding things to do. I quickly start to slide off but knowing this trend now, I am hoping to have a better plan in place with activities for just those days of things to do here at the house in the house. Meanwhile, I do hope you get some good information from the dietician on the 23rd! ---------- I have this irrational fear of going to the pool now. Everyone was so slim and trim last time I tried to go when it was so busy. I know logically this is for myself and I love, love, love to swim. But being seen in a swimsuit is not at the the height of my comfort level right now. "Just do it" keeps coming to mind, others be darned. I just wish I could get rid of this sinking feeling. So I have been alternating weights with yoga or tai chi here at the house, and walking everyday in the interim. All my lab values were really good this last doc visit except 2, the B12 thing (which still needs serious work) and the triglycerides were up, despite cholesterol begin low. So I too have an appointment with the dietician now and a follow-up with the doc specifically in 6 mos about this. Nothing like a deadline to boot. This will be good though. Curious though, doc said, for those who are trying to lose weight, weighing themselves every day acts as a POSITIVE feedback mechanism not allowing them to go into denial about their actual weight and have more success. They then know if they are up or down to know if they should make more modifications or changes in their daily routines. However, this used to drive me nuts. I can see some validity to it but knowing the frustration at times, rather maddening frustrating, perhaps it is worth a try again having the feedback but to take in better stride. Being the depressive I am, the only time in life I'll say that I hope I'm down. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Made goal yesterday of walking with the dog, and walks on campus. Also after putting it off, picked up a scale to start doing weigh-in's as the doc recommended. Cannot say this will be the highlight of my day; I have to find a way to rethink this. Perhaps there will actually be progress on that front; however, it feels as though the clothes are a little looser or wishful thinking.
Feeling more energetic today, what to do? Walks with the dog, of course, and goal will be to do weights as have not done these in awhile. So it is written. Ha. ![]() Time to get moving! ![]()

Being sick this past week has changed a lot of things for me and I'm glad. I normally drink coffee but didn't feel like it Sunday morning was so ill, that and all the meds I was taking and my illness had my blood pressure and pulse way up so I just decided I would forego the coffee (and now I'm safely past any withdrawal symptoms) and I've avoided the sugar (desserts, candy) and alcohol too so I'm just going with that and drinking more water and seeing what will happen over the course of a couple weeks. I've lost a couple pounds I think and am hopeful I will feel and sleep a lot better too as well as have better numbers.
But I've been thinking of illness and how we are supposed to try this, that and the other change and yet it is so hard because we have our normal habits and don't really think they interfere with "new" things that go wrong or we sort of try changes but they don't seem to work. I would not have stopped the coffee if I hadn't not wanted it in the first place, been too sick to contemplate it. But I'm glad I am getting this opportunity to not do caffeine, sugar, alcohol (beer and pizza night will be tolerable because of this trial, I'd normally just modify it a little instead of foregoing completely but with all the other stuff too, I'm curious enough to "suffer" :-)

I really do hope you are feeling better. It is amazing how during those times that we can be really spurred on into making some simply changes that can last, with great impact.
This past couple of days have been difficult dealing with a loss, and then with familial and friend obligations. I am losing myself in all this trying to keep head above water, and am trying to keep to a routine as best as I can to keep just moving. I've lost some weight but more so from not taking very good care of myself with all the stress, so I have to be more mindful of this. Tomorrow will just be school and time to myself hopefully to regroup and gets some walks in, and something else that will be the fun choice of the day. Goal: to follow through with those 2 things. Here's to everyone's health, fitness, and goals! Cheers! ![]()

Has anyone tried Zumba? A friend sent me "kit" for lack of a better term, discs and a dumbell set to use to change of the routine. He was saying how even for him how much he enjoyed it and it helped with cardio. I had heard this from another friend, who called it "fun" before at a place where she took classes; so I am looking forward to trying it. Should be interesting anyhow.
Goal today: walk and to Zumba, see how coordinated I am not. ![]()

Surprisingly enough, even for the uncoordinated, I am happy to report Zumba takes one through the moves step-by-step and is actually fun. I have an older version that is latin, reggae, and merengue; I love it. The newer version has this with some pop and hip/hop in; I will consider it in the future when tired of this but for now I have to say am impressed with this work out even for the beginner. You can modify things for you level and it is energizing. I never thought I would actually look forward to working out but this has made it so, and it is a workout!
![]() Today the goal is to pull myself away from the Zumba to do weights and try to get out in the cold for walks. High today 5 F /-15 C, but no additional snow so have to go. Brrrr though.

Hope everyone's fitness goals are moving right along. Wishing everyone well! You can do it!
![]() Check: walk for today. Goal: need to do some cardio this afternoon and walk with the pup again. I was pleased with lower number on the scale today, but have decided checking in daily with the scale is not good as I have started to obsess over numbers and despite the weight coming off. I'm going to do it weekly now instead. I want to be more concerned about the measurements and how I feel than the weight numbers, despite the doc's request.

Talked to someone yesterday who's gun-ho spirited for their New's Resolution to become more fit has slacked off and laughed because for a few days now have been a slug myself, not sure if sick that B12 levels are dropping or just being lazy.
I was reminded of that Henry Moore quote for a boost in starting each fresh: "I think in terms of the day's resolutions, not the year's." So today, goal: Walk again with the pup and do weights.

I've re-started my program to lose weight and since Monday I've lost 1 pound. My goal is at least 1 pound each week.
Two things I will do is drink more water and stretching on the floor each day. Weighing often really is a good thing to do. It helps me to see if my efforts are paying off. When it stays the same, it is a ok feeling. If I gain, I do get frustrated, at least when I'm still thinking I doing good, but it really motivates me when it is even .5 pounds less. In 'the program' I've learned and keep learning, we are to weigh at least 2 times a week. Better if everyday. As you can see when you start to stray....it works for me. I'll walk twice today since it is so much warmer than normal. Yesterday it was in the mid 60's in OHIO. Today will be in the low 50's, way warmer than it should be. I'm loving that. Dog loves it too. Thanks for motivating me Fresia. ![]()

Since we have been having such unseasonably warm weather, I have walked 2 times several days instead of just 1. It is Friday and I've lost 2 pounds since Monday. 1 whole pound over my weekly goal.
![]() Haven't done my floor stretching every day like I had 'goaled' myself to, but will do them tonight. ![]() Am still working on more water, less coffee or diet soda.

More water is hard for me too! Like right now, I am thristy since we had pizza tonight, (salty) and I don't/can't use salt, so it is so noticable when I do have something salty. I'll be right back, I'm going to go get the bottle of water I opened at 3:30.
Ah, that is good. Didn't do my floor exercises ![]() I'm down 2 1/2 pounds since Monday. It always starts faster than 1 pound each week when I increase my walking. ![]() ![]() ![]() Goal fo rtomorrow, walk 2 times maybe 3 if weather is good.

I am down in Florida and doing well with eating fish most nights and no meat with my breakfasts (since I have eggs, don't need "more" protein and the meat is mostly just too much salt and not very nutritious).
I was going to walk each day and haven't done that officially but we have been out on various shopping expeditions and some of them have been difficult (walking from one store to another as well as around the store; we did our grocery shopping in a two-level Target, for example and I also had to get other supplies for us spending a month here, besides the groceries in the far back of the store :-) I'm doing a lot of aching in my sleep though, don't know what that is. I'm taking my D (it has been overcast and rainy since we've been here so no sun) but the doctor is testing my B12 too in a couple months, maybe I should find a multi-vitamin again.
